Republicans are used to hearing their messages in short easy to repeat messaging. Too much Fox news and the Donnie. So here's the message:
People may not like abortions but they absolutely FUCKING hate the thought of losing the right to make their own decisions about it.
There. It's so god damned simple. Abortions are number 1 and in their view anyone associated with it isn't someone they want. People don't have a problem with you or anyone not liking abortions - they have a massive issue with you not liking it and deciding for them that it isn't gonna be a option because you don't like it.
Reality is in the results and it's that abortions are the gigantic umbrella issue that colors all the actors underneath it in a wonderful piss colored light. That's how the majority of the public sees them and everything else they represent.
Wanna ban books? Looks too much like they're taking another choice away from us. Health care, same fucking thing. Guns, you guys are responsible for all the kid death. Anti-Unions, you assholes wanna take away our bargaining rights. The abortion issue colors everything else in it's afterglow.
You wanna talk about breakthrough messaging? Republicans owe the framing of that issue. Years ago, I talked with a buddy of mine who just didn't understand how my wife and I (or Joe Biden) could not like abortions and be pro-abortion rights.
I had to explain to him over and over again, pro-choice isn't pro-abortion. Now, I don't need to explain it to him. He gets it. Thank you supreme court - Mark is pro-choice guy himself these days. I think my friend always was, he just couldn't reconcile the framing media allowed him.
I think what we are witnessing is a the great awakening about abortion. People are longing for the ability to make a decision for themselves, their families and their kids without having big Republican government do it for them.
I think the most important secondary issue is the amount of losses moms for liberty took on Tuesday. That's the god damn story. People think there's nothing wrong with having a book they do not want their kids exposed to and taking steps so their kid doesn't get to it. Ok, whether we agree with it or not, your kid, your choice.
What they can't stand is you not liking the book and taking it away from not just your kid but all kids and all parents to decide whether their kids read it or not.
Stop big Republican government from taking away your choices and the choices of your family and friends.
When republicans hear agreement that an issue like abortion or a fucking book is unpopular, they wanna ride that wave to a ban. It's too far.
Similarly, when we find out that people agree on pro-choice or hate book bans, we shouldn't think they agree with the entire democratic agenda. We should campaign on what the people want and don't want.
Let the abortion and book ban issues act as a platform/bridge to other popular democratic ideas like, I don't know, recreational marijuana usage. Pro-Unions. Pro minimum wage increase and my favorite, lifting the social security cap.
Start with the abortions and book bans. Meet them where they are.
We can play culture warrior too, assholes. And remember Trump is weak.
