My sister shared a YouTube video with me this evening, a duet with Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham.
I must say, first, that I am a huge Ted Lasso fan. After the West Wing, I was convinced I’d never again see a show with folks I felt were family - people I looked forward to seeing every week as I do my loved ones. But Ted Lasso, if anything, became even closer than Josh and Donna and Toby and CJ and Jed and Abigail. My love for them is deep and abiding. I love Ted and Rebecca, Keeley and Nate, Higgins and Jamie, Sam … they are so dear.
I grieved throughout the final episode. Surely Sudeikis would relent, and give us more seasons, yes?! No one with such a fine heart could be so cruel. We still don’t know what will come for those amazing people, what might happen in the way of spinoffs. Hopefully we haven’t seen the last of the world they created, the relationships they built, the family they shared. Even so, time has seemed full since the end of the Ted Lasso season, and attention has turned to other elements in life, in politics. Our family has watched Mandalorian, The Great British Baking Show and many other things. It came as a great and welcome surprise to see Sudeikis and Waddingham singing together.
They performed a cover of “Shallow,” in the Thundergong! Concert in Kansas City, a benefit concert for Steps of Faith Foundation. If you care to donate to help pay for prosthetics for uninsured (or underinsured) amputees, you can do that here. (You can designate any contribution for Thundergong! if you like.)
The video posted yesterday. Until I watched them, I didn’t know how hungry I was for them. I mean, I knew, but it wasn’t immediate, and the intensity of the emotion surprised me. I ugly cried through the entire duet, because of the love I have for them. I hope it speaks to you, too, if you are Ted Lasso/Jason Sudeikis/Hannah Waddingham fans.
