Students will return to the classrooms on Nov 27. The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by members of the teachersʼ union and approval by members of the school board. This is a good result after the strike.

The Portland Association of Teachers has been asking for wrap-around services, safe, well-maintained, and fully staffed schools, and resources Portland educators need. The gains are in wages and planning time.

For me, an intriguing result was about class sizes: the contract terms include
overage pay for teachers for each student their class exceeds the class-size recommendations.
