Is media bias censoring the climate "debate"? No. It wasn't in 2014, and it won't be in 2024.
Is it damningly hypocritical for climate activists to fly? No. It wasn't in 2014, and it won't be in 2024.
Is climate coverage from Rupert Murdoch’s media empire reliable? No. It wasn't in 2014, and it won't be in 2024.
Is debunking deniers a way to change their minds? No. It wasn't in 2014, and it won't be in 2024.
Maybe the hottest year on record will be convincing? No. It wasn't in 2014, and it won't be in 2024.
Looking back, the extent to which the same people are pushing the same disinformation as they were a decade ago is, on the one hand, a depressing indication of how few consequences there are for being wrong on purpose for money.
Fortunately, on the other hand, it's also a pretty unmistakable sign that there's no way to look at this history and maintain that these are good faith positions based on available evidence.
These zombie disinformation narratives are stalling tactics, expenditures made to buy the fossil fuel industry another decade of pollution-driven profits.
That’s why it's also fortunate that the response to climate disinformation has changed over the last decade.
The UN wasn't exactly calling out climate disinformation back in 2014, social media companies weren't acknowledging it in their policies, and there certainly wasn't a 50+ organization coalition dedicated to stopping it.
So this will be the last Denier Roundup for 2024, and we'll return refreshed, and perhaps a bit revamped, in mid-January.
Thanks for reading, and here's to hoping all the big surprises in the New Year are good ones!
