So I’m watching Rachel Maddow right now. It’s a racially diverse five member panel discussing today’s arraignment and all of its implications, which are legion. It’s an intelligent, lively, insightful, and respectful conversation.
And guess what? Every single member of the panel is a woman. That warms my heart. I can’t imagine the most coveted prime time spot on such a momentous occasion featuring a panel consisting only of women, but I’ll be damned. It’s happening.
That makes me feel like there’s hope for this country. I’m not saying we need to exclude men, far from it. Men are awesome. But I am saying that when all-women panels discussing momentous occasions on one of the most highly rated shows in the most coveted time spot starts to become normal, we are making great progress in this country.
So chin up, everyone. I think the momentum’s on our side. But don’t let that make you think you can leave it to everyone else. Get out the vote every way you can and start now. The future is ours if we want it, and by ours I mean every person of good will.
We’ve come a long way… And we’ve got a long way to go.
