Hi. Practicing Georgia attorney here. I don’t practice criminal law. But in my nearly 20 years I’ve learned a few tricks to get at information that the general public might not be able to find. And there’s something interesting to be learned from the leaked Fulton County Clerk indictment non-information.
Andrew Weissman on MSNBC made an interesting point just now. He said (paraphrasing), “just because there are 10 indictments, doesn’t mean that all 10 indictments related to Trump.” And he’s right!
The leaked, “fiction” case number was 23SC188945. And, before 10 PM (eastern), if you checked that number on the clerk’s website you’d get “no case found” results. There is a case ending 944, but not 945.
Well that changed in the last few minutes. Case 23SC188945 is now an actual, non-Trump case. The indictment came out tonight. Similarly, there is a Case 23SC188946 also, a sex offender case, that has nothing to do with Trump. But there is not yet a Case 23SC188947. That will likely be Trump-related.
So if you’d like a leg up your friends and family, check the Fulton County Court Clerk’s website in the case records for that case number. You’ll have to register to search. And for a small fee you can read the documents online.
Georgia has, too often, been a national laughing stock. But right now I think the country will see the best of our legal system.
