I was a tad amused when I read the list of indictments by Fans Willis because they included a name I was, familiar with during my 12 years in hell, er, GA. The name that that might have been written in magenta glitter was,Robert Cheeley.
Why was it so familiar?
My husband went to.high school.with him.and wasn't fond ofvhim. There were only 50in their graduating class at Buford High so everyone knew everybody else. I pointed out his indictment to my husband who said even back then he was an officious self important little $#%&$ (fiveletters, rhymes with tick).
The Cheeleey family may not be well known outside GA, but in that state they are hardly obscure. Robert's father is Joseph Greeley, a judge. I.have seen the house Robert grew up.in, a beautiful old mansion. The family is old money and very important in that area, including in politically in a behind the scenes way.
I am actually surprised Robert never ran for office, but settled for making tons of money as a torts lawyer specializing in personal injury cases, suing Ford and other companies. He specializes in train wrecks, wrongful death and false arrests (I suspect that translates into "helps rich jerks skate if driving drunk or being caught with a bag of cocain;" I doubt it involves helping a poor black teen caught with crack because where's the money in that?)
He worked with former Senator David Perdue in some capacity. That makes sense since they are both conservative and rich and move in the same circles, screwing over working class people. And that would logically tie them to Trump because they stand for everything I despise in both the ambulance chaser and the misogynist CEO who refused to.pay his workers,a decent wage and wouldn't promote women to.management.
They only care about tax cuts. And it is a given that they are steeped in racism and misogyny, though they would never admit it. It is bred into them like the gene for Huntington's: you know how it will likely end. But I don't think anyone would predict that Charley would get swept up in a RICO case and face jail.time for helping incite the overthrow of a fair election. He isn't exactly the sort of man portrayed by Alan Study in Advise and Consent or more recently in the political.novels of Robert North Patterson. He is more of a John Gresham character in a,supporting role, just as he is in Trump World.
So there we are, not knowing whether we should laugh or cry at being connected to a guy who is likely to go to jail for his small but important role in attempting to overturn a fair election.
