I apologize for writing so many stories about my friends in Ghana but I just have to share the good news.
Frederic is an old man who has been living under an overpass, homeless and abandoned.
When he was younger Frederic did much good, bailing out young men who had been arrested by the government. Without his help many of them would have simply disappeared into prison and would never have been seen again.
My friend John was one of those young men.
Some months ago John ran across Frederic on the street and didn’t recognize him until Frederic called out to him. They spoke for a bit and Frederic told him that he was alone and living on the streets. John promised to help but we have so little money to work with, and then John himself has been sick and hospitalized repeatedly with his bleeding problems. So we have been unable to help.
But John let me know this morning that he has managed to get Frederic into shelter. I don’t know the details but John said he has got him a place in Kokoma. Frederic has many serious health problems and I don’t know if he has any money for food but at least he is no longer living under an overpass.
This has been preying on my mind. We do not throw people out of the lifeboat.
Next we have to care for Ibrahim, the nine year old orphan who is sleeping under trucks and selling what scrap he can find in the streets.
But for today some good news. I thought you would like to know that John’s work is not all sadness and suffering.
