As we head into election season again (IOW a day that ends in “y”) we will all see an increase in the number of annoying text solicitations we receive. I will kindly suggest to anyone who gets their mad on about the number of texts you receive, you should just reply STOP to the text message.
My comment from another diary on this topic:
Folks, all you have to do is reply STOP. Any candidate or organization that continues to contact you after you send them a STOP request is breaking the law, and they are subject to fines and class action lawsuits. I received around $2,000 from Rita’s Italian Ice several years ago because they continued texting me after I sent them a stop request.
The Rita’s Italian Ice class action settlement is open to all U.S. residents who received a “cool alerts” text message between June 22, 2011 and Sept. 15, 2015.
- Individuals who received at least one additional “cool alerts” text message after texting “STOP” in response to a previous text spam are entitled to 10 Award Units
Trust me, any candidate or organization you send a STOP request to will stop texting you.
I have sent money numerous times to candidates and organizations who texted me asking for donations. I usually go to ActBlue rather than click on links from the text, donate, and then reply STOP to the text message. I LITERALLY NEVER hear from them again. I sent Voters of Tomorrow $30 a couple of weeks ago in response to a text solicitation. Haven’t heard from them since.
Complaining on dailykos about text solicitations, and whining about how much the poor poor grassroots gets abused by all these terrible Democrats asking for money will have a chilling effect on fundraising. Why would we want to make it harder for our candidates to raise money?
Reply STOP. It’s easy. There’s no fire, no blood, and nobody lost an eye. You are fine. Until we can do something about Citizens United, this is the terrible terrible cross we all must bear.
