Welcome to Bookchat! Where you can talk about anything; books, plays, essays, and audio books. You don’t have to be reading a book to come in, sit down, and chat with us.
I just wanted us to have a book chat today, since it’s been a couple of weeks. What, if anything — are you reading? Do you set reading goals for the year?
I’ve read: Harry Turtledove’s latest, The Wages of Sin (AIDS got loose in the world centuries earlier, and really changed how the world works); the Runner’s World book for beginning runners, borrowed 2 “flirty fitness” books from kindle unlimited, and finished Consort of Fire, the new one from writing duo Kit Rocha. I ended up liking it more than I expected to. A dragon, the princess trained & sent to kill him, and her bodyguard; there’s a lot of very detailed sex. But it’s also about discovering who you are, believing in yourself and in love; and they have a scary battle to fight together. (I loved their previous series the Mercenary Librarians so very much). I started: The Boxing Baroness by Minerva Spencer. The main character is based on a real woman boxer. It’s a nice, steamy, feminist historical romance. And I read Hail Hail by Turtledove, a novella where the Marx Brothers accidentally go back in time to an abortive attempt for Texas to break away from Mexico to form Fredonia (this is something that really happened) and, they change things. Rather a lot.
We need some more hosts. We have chingchongchinaman booked for 1/24, MT Spaces for 1/31, and ArkDem14 for 2/7. Does someone want 1/17? Or some other Wednesdays in February? You’re here, that means you have some interest in books. You can host one of these, and yes I really mean you. It doesn’t have to be all fancy and detailed, just write about what you’re reading, or what you want to read, or something book-related.
