“Projection” is a term used in psychology to characterize defensive mechanisms used by people responding to something they are insecure about. The definition of “Projection” in Psychology Today is: The process of displacing one’s feelings onto a different person, animal, or object. The term is most commonly used to describe defensive projection—attributing one’s own unacceptable urges to another. For example, if someone continuously bullies and ridicules a peer about his insecurities, the bully might be projecting his own struggle with self-esteem onto the other person.
Since Trump’s first term as president of the US, I have had to learn more about what "projection" is than I ever wanted. I now know that “projection” is being used by the Trump Campaign's "Media Misinformation Strategy" and can identify it when the Trump Campaign uses it. I think everyone should be able to identify when Mr. Trump and/or his campaign uses “projection” to generate misinformation in the media.
