Greetings folks! Welcome to A Song of Zion, our weekly check-in and virtual minyan for Jews on Daily Kos. This is an open thread, and we treat it as a safe space for Jewish folks here. Non-Jews are welcome but we ask that they listen more than speak. No squabbling, please: if you want to fight, please step outside. (H/T wasplover)
This will be an abbreviated post, since rus did a full entry yesterday. I just thought I’d still throw something up since Thursday is our regular day. Feel free to chit chat here, or head over to rus’s post.
This week in my queer parsha study group we discussed the ten commandments and how challenging the 5th commandment, honor your father and mother can be for those from toxic families, and for queer people in particular. How do you all feel about that one? Hope everybody has a great Shabbat!
This week I give you Danny Kaye, singing a song with a nod to anti-fascism. Fun fact: Kaye naturally has brown hair, but the studio wanted him to look less Jewish. They really wanted him to “fix” his nose, but he refused and compromised with dying his hair blond.
I’m a Kaye super fan, and plan to write a longer post about him for this group in the future.
