As of this date in U.S. History, American politics is all about Trump. He dominates everything.
Policies? Who cares. Achievements? So what. Faults? Virtues? Age?
The only thing that matters in American politics today is whether you are for Trump or against Trump.
Political sites (including this one) are all about Trump — what he said, what he promised, what he intends to do, what he has already done. If any other subject come up, any other politician mentioned, it is always in relation to Trump. “He’s better that Trump!”, or “He’s trying to attract Trump’s followers!”, or “He’s no Trump!”
Biden? “We need to vote for him in order to defeat Trump!” Not because he’ll reform the Supreme Court, tax the rich, control the banks, or forgive more student debt. No, we are pushing him to win because he is not Trump.
So what happens when Trump’s gone?
Gone as in GONE. He is not a well man. His faculties are in decline, he’s under enormous amounts of stress, he doesn’t eat right . . .
What if he has a stroke before November? Or a heart attack?
I have heard a few theories. I don’t agree with them.
I have heard that the MAGA faithful will simply move on and vote for the Trumpiest substitute.
Yeah, right. Ron DeSantis tried that when it looked like Trump couldn’t run. He banned books and vaccines and immigrants, and in the end was still less popular than an enema. The other alternates looked desperate, uninformed, gormless and in over their heads during the debates.
I do not see a savior coming along to rally the GOP.
I have heard that the Trump supporters will make a martyr of him, go full terrorist, and try to overthrow the government.
No. They may try. But we have seen several times what their terrorist actions look like. They are either one man shooters who end up dead, or groups that chicken out in the end, leaving only their poop behind. All the planning and money in the world will not turn a bunch of couch commandos into a military force.
Keep in mind also that they have nothing to gain from a coup. Without Trump, they have no strongman to replace the president with. Martyrs are inspirational, but they don’t make laws.
What I DO see is the right wing billionaires switching their attention to the Democrats. If they can get enough Joe Manchins and Kyrsten Sinemas elected, they can still push their agendas even without the Freedom Caucus.
