I reckon a lot of y’all have heard now about the MAGA idea concerning recreational sex. If you haven’t, it’s pretty simple. According to a Rolling Stone article, a 2023 video from the Heritage Foundation said that, “conservatives have to lead the way in restoring sex to its true purpose, and ending recreational sex and senseless use of birth control pills.” A conservative activist named Chris Rufo defended that statement recently, and so it’s in the news.
So let’s talk about recreational sex. As far as I can tell, it’s any sex that isn’t for the express purpose of making a baby. And the Heritage Foundation wants all sex to be for the purpose of making a baby.
So how does that work?
“Yeah, sure, he raped her,” says the judge, “but he was trying to make a baby, so it wasn’t recreational sex and it’s fine.” It’s kind of like the “I was scared for my life” defense. “Oh, it wasn’t recreational. I was trying to make a baby.”
Or how about this one?
”She’s guilty of recreational sex and sentenced to five years in prison,” says the judge of a post-menopausal woman.
Jeffrey Epstein would still be alive if the ban on recreational sex were in place because, don’t you know, all those rich and famous and oh-so-virile men were just trying to make babies. The girls that they were with were guilty of recreational sex. They didn’t tell Jeffrey and his merry band that they hadn’t had their first period yet. LOCK THEM UP!
This is serious, y’all.
I know you know it, but please do all you can to keep the creeps, thugs and opportunists from ruining our country. I personally think that getting up to speed on and sharing the offerings from Ruth Ben Ghiat and Heather Cox Richardson is a great way to start.
