Last year I got dental insurance, something like $3,000 per year. Plus, they pay for 2 cleanings and x-rays. That $3,000 was used up by getting 2 crowns. I have the same insurance this year and broke a tooth last month. I thought I would get a crown but no, it had to be pulled and the dentist said he didn’t think I would need the tooth anyway.
Turns out while a crown is $1500, having a tooth pulled is $150. Can you believe that? I had my teeth cleaned last week and I asked if there was anything I could do to keep my teeth from breaking. I was thinking it was just old age making my teeth and bones brittle.
The hygienist told me to floss more. Floss more?!? I don’t see how that will keep my teeth from getting brittle and breaking.
I didn’t floss my teeth as a kid, did you? I figured floss wasn’t invented then but it was invented in the early 1800’s and by the late 1800’s Johnson and Johnson had a patent on the stuff. It didn’t get big until the 1970’s though. Which explains why I didn’t use it as a kid.
I don’t like flossing my teeth and I’m pretty sure that no study has proven it to be effective. I’m not going to tell my Dental hygienist that though. I’m going to quietly accept the free toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. A fun read on all of this is here time.com/…
