After a number of Republicans in the Texas House went against Abbott’s command to pass School Vouchers and voted to impeach Attorney General Paxton, those two and several PACs made it their mission to oust the otherwise Christian Nationalist supporting representatives, funding opponents in the Republican primary.
Abbott and Paxton were somewhat successful, ousting six of the 16 offending supposed “RINO”s.
And I found myself wondering if, despite the Texas Democratic Party sometimes falling disappointingly short of preparing for these kinds of opportunities, we had Democrats available to step in and steal these six races back from Abbott and Paxton.
Turns out that we do, in three of them.
I’ll be donating to them shortly, and I’m hoping that some of y’all might be able to spare some early dough so we can try to inflict a little pain on two grossly cruel Texans. It would be just perfect if their efforts ended up actually losing Republican seats in the Texas House.
Remember that Texas House races typically get very little money, so we might be able to sneak up on them — they might figure the challenging race is done.
Laurel Jordan Swift — HD 121. Dave’s Redistricting says this is 53R/47D. Her opponent is Marc LaHood so a nice GOTWomenV opportunity.
Jennifer Lee — HD 55. Dave’s Redistricting says this is 55R/45D. A big stretch, but if she can get the money to get the message out…
Tiffany Drake — HD 62. Dave’s Redistricting has this at 76R/24D. No way, but I figured I’d throw it on here. I mean, if enough rural Texans hear and take in this kind of message, maybe? If nothing else, it’s nice to support someone who is stepping up for us in such a heavily Republican area.
BONUS
Lauren Ashley Simmons — HD 146. This is a SOLID D, 78D/22R… BUT! The incumbent, Shawn Theirry, supported banning gender-transitioning care for minors, gave a speech on the House floor that shocked fellow Democrats, and voted with Republicans. The primary runoff is May 29, and Lauren came so close on March 5. There is no Republican opponent, so whoever wins this wins in November.
