Today, we hosted Hubby’s immediate family for Easter brunch. As none of them are religious, I’ve always wondered why they celebrate the holiday since they’re not in any way practicing Christians. Secular Christmas is easier to understand since (a) it’s unavoidable, (b) it has pagan origins anyway, and (c) it’s on a fixed date. In some past years, I’ve pretty much forgotten about Easter, despite my Catholic upbringing. I suppose it’s a way of celebrating spring, but there are other ways to do that (vernal equinox, Earth Day, etc). In any case, we all had a reasonably pleasant day despite the rain.
I’ll leave you with an anthem from the Sacred Harp (inspired by the musical contributions from zenbassoon’s Top Comments Diary last night):
Whether or not you celebrate Easter, I hope you had a pleasant and relaxing day.
