Some recent news about Republicans in NC raising money for Republican candidate for the Superintendent of Public Instruction. www.wunc.org/…
If you haven’t met Michele Morrow yet here is a couple of things about her.
Morrow has made national headlines since defeating GOP incumbent Catherine Truitt in last month's primary. She homeschools her children and has called public schools "indoctrination centers." She has also suggested on social media that former President Barack Obama and other Democrats should be executed on live TV.
She seems nice.
But what caught my attention when l was listening to NPR when I was out running errands yesterday was
An invitation to the fundraiser obtained by WUNC lists a suggested contribution that slightly exceeds the legal maximum donation of $6,400, suggesting a "host" should chip in $6,600.
So, was the plan to set her up for illegal campaign contributions (which is shady), not feeling they need to follow the rules, or just didn’t bother to read the rules or do the math?
Note one of the folks raising money founded the Thales Academy Private Schools? Apparently out performing public schools in reading and math may not be a priority?
Running against her is Mo Green www.mogreenfornc.com
Maurice “Mo” Green has strived to be a champion for public education in North Carolina throughout a professional career that has included being a school district superintendent, a chief executive for a large foundation that awards grants supporting public education and a school board attorney.
