When I wrote this Bucket at the beginning of April, I witnessed lots of bird behaviors that preceded the laying of eggs. I hope that many others join me in the comment section remembering your experiences.
Ms JG and I spend a lot of time out walking. I mean a lot. My step count for March was over 450,000 steps. This is not only for exercise, but we like to see changes from one season to the next. For us, this is the ‘season before egg laying.’
Bird behaviors seen during this time including finding a mate, hanging out together, building a nest and finding food to keep nourished. The following photos will tell the story using Cooper’s Hawks, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Heron.
Osprey didn’t start showing up in my area until the first of this month. Since I watch nests only 4 blocks from my home and at one of my two main birding sites, I had many opportunities in just the week since this Bucket was crafted.
Great Blue Herons exhibit similar behaviors.

When I take photos, I have a story that could accompany the photo. Most of the photos are taken in the past month. I had this Bucket in mind as I took the photos. I could have added Anna’s Hummingbirds. Other birds I don’t have the mating, nest building or food gathering. What do you have to add today?
