Washington Post reporter Isaac Arnsdorf's new book, Finish What We Started: The Maga Movement’s Ground War to End Democracy, will be published next week. The Post published an excerpt on Thursday. It is very much worth reading because it spells out Steve Bannon's vision of a MAGA-dominated America and how to get there.
Bannon believed the MAGA movement, if it could break out of being suppressed and marginalized by the establishment, represented a dominant coalition that could rule for a hundred years.
It will send shivers down your spine.
Now I happen to believe that Bannon's notiont hat there are secretly millions of Democrats who are yearning to be MAGA followers and just don’t know it yet is pure delusion.
I also think that drawing inspiration from Eric Hoffer, the ‘longshoreman philosopher and author of The True Believer (1951), which became a manual for comprehending the age of Hitler, Stalin and Mao, is equally delusional. (But then I also think that of Ayn Rand's followers.)
In any event, Bannon’s vision is about to be tested again in November and we must do absolutely everything in our power to stop Trump from reclaiming the White House.
