This week I am asking you to join me in identifying fascists and those who may be in league with them so let's have some fun and find some ways to determine who is in league with the fascists. The more snark the better.
You may be in league with fascists
if:
you say "When uniformity is
compromised, then authority no longer holds."
(1)
you say “my country right or
wrong.”
you say “right is might.”
you think the best way to talk to a
liberal is with a baseball bat.
you believe that when the United
States acts against citizens abroad it can do so free of the Bill of
Rights.
(5)
Please come join the
Nov-Violent
Anti-Fascistic Movement.
You may be in league with fascists
if:
you think labor camps are needed just
in case.
(6)
you think dissent is a national
security problem.
(7)
you think tort reform will
significantly reduce medical costs.
(8)
you think war crimes must be
prosecuted unless they are Americans.
(9)
you think Janet Jackson's breast was
the most horrific thing your child had to deal with last year.
(10)
you worry about the “limousine
liberals, Hollywood leftists, radical special interests and the angry
Clinton/Kennedy/Kerry national Democrats."
(11)
you think “gay panic” is
an acceptable defense for killing someone
(12)
you agree that “it's fun to
shoot people”
(13)
you believe religion belongs in the
classroom
(14)
you think torture is ok because the
prisoners always confess.
(15)
you think sex toys will destroy
America
(16)
you believe the Bible is a law book.
(17)
you believe displaying an anti-Bush
bumper sticker is grounds for arrest.
(18)
you think sexual humiliation is not
torture.
(19)
you think requiring RFID's for
everyone is not a privacy violation.
(20)
you believe liberals hate America
(21)
you think
"too much democracy
is not always a good thing." (22)
you believe Wal-Mart employment
practices don't hurt the country.
(23)
you think too much education can be a
bad thing. (24)
you believe there were WMD's in Iraq.
(25)
you think everyone is required to
stand for the National Anthem.
(26)
you think Americans have never killed
anyone through torture.
(27)
you think abortions have declined
under President Bush.
(28)
you think the Administration has never
silenced dissent.
(29)
you think it's ok to detain suspects
indefinably.
(30)
you believe rape victims should not be
told about emergency contraceptives.
(31)
you think Social Security recipients
should have their benefits cut off if they are suspected of a crime.
(32)
you think industries
should help write their own regulations
(33)
These are the main Diaries, with
commentary, from the last few days that relate, in my opinion, to the
possibility that this country is becoming a Corporate Nationalistic
Anti-Communistic State. Historically the Fascist state, which was
Italy under Mussolini, bears remarkable resemblances to the country
many Republican leaders are trying to create. This Diary only covers
Thursday though Saturday due to the number of listing. If you missed
the previous versions
click
here for them.
Steven
D delved deep into history to uncover
The
Real Plot to Overthrow FDR's America. This is a well documented
look at the history of the attempt by fascists to usurp
Roosevelt's power in the early 30's. If
anyone doubts that Mussolini's ideals were embraced
in this country they need to this diary and check the many links.
C
V Cobb 01 presented us with
Fascism
pt 2" "If it walks like a duck." By taking a look
at the recent excellent
article
by Thom Hartmann who compares Hitler's early days and the current
conditions of America. If you are a skeptic
you must read Thom's
article. I think CV needs to read the definitions I listed in the
last diary.
Lestatdelc
reminded us that the
Nazi's
were not thugs. In the end many did become thugs but at the
beginning the German people were a highly educated, spiritual, and
enlightened. They were converted over a period
of more than ten years into what we remember today. No one thinks
about the country that won the rights to the 1936 Olympics
or the fact that fascism was praised by time magazine in 1937.
Everyone sees the horrors of WWII and the
holocaust without understanding that if they had looked at Germany
ten years prior to those events they would never believe those people
were capable of performing them.
1. Powerful and continuing
expression of nationalism.
Delaware
Dem had a very good point in his diary about
Scared
Stupid Little Boys and Girls. The diary focused on America's
history about the “love it or leave it” mentality. The
good news in that legislation passed based on this mentality actually
led to the ouster of the federalists in the early 1800's. I agree
that this mentality is not uniquely fascist but it is inclusively
fascist. The discussion degenerated into a
discussion of DD's use of politically
incorrect wording in his original title and a reference in the diary.
But the point of the diary was very important and was worth
discussion. I hope that Kos' place doesn't adopt a be politically
correct or leave it mentality. I would be in serious trouble if that
happened.
STOP
George hit it big with when he caught the U.S. Ambassador to
Canada's message that
Canada
is no Longer a Sovereign Nation: U.S. Ambassador. With the
statements that "We simply cannot understand why Canada would in
effect give up its sovereignty - its seat at the table - to decide
what to do about a missile that might be coming towards Canada."
and the U.S. will fire into Canadian airspace without consultation
with the Canadian Government. While most instances of nationalism are
bottom up, policies that ignore international treaties and foreign
sovereignty are top down examples.
JAS1001
was victim to a bottom up example which caused him to ask
Are
we divided indefinitely? When he made the statement that the
“Bush Administration is the most secretive presidency of our
lifetimes” during a class presentation he created a firestorm
of attacks from fellow students. I do not think we are indefinably
divided! We need an issue like encroaching
fascism to bring the majority back to their senses. If we do that and
take back at least one house of congress we can possibly revitalize
the spirit of compromise that made this
country great. Until that happens we will remain divided because one
half of this country will continue it's agenda while totally snubbing
the other half they will also blame the other half for not agreeing
with their agenda.
Magorn
gave us some insight on Bush's comments about how our government is
Free?
Transparent? Open? : You've got to be Joking. It appears that
Bush's remarks concerning our government
were written by Kool-aid swilling White House Aids.
You must see
what Bush said and Magorn's citations that prove that the
President didn't have a clue about what is really happening in this
country. This fits in here since this falls under the heading of
“we're right even when we're wrong” file.
2. Disdain for the importance of
human rights.
If you believe that since nothing is
listed here it does not exist you need to see my previous editions.
3. Identification of
enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause.
Allentown
Boy received a emotional outpouring of support in hid diary
titled
I
Think They Want Me Dead. When you look at the calls by many
influential Right Wing evangelicals for a true “final solution”
to the problem of Gays and Lesbians in society. Many of these same
people want to have the Muslims join the Gays. My contention is that
full blown Nazi style fascism could easily become a reality in this
country if these people are given more and more power. We are in the
early stages of same environment that led to the atrocities
in Germany and many leaders would have no problem with instituting
the later stages.
Goldfish
found an article that could put every leftist's feet
literally into the fire when he announced the details of the
SWIFT
BOAT LIAR'S NEW SMEAR: Democrats giving Iran the bomb. Yes folks
we may soon become part of the Iranian terror regime when this hit's
Rush, Oreilly, Hume, and Hannity's airwaves come Monday morning.
Jerome Corsi, co-author of the slimy smear-piece
Unfit for Command
has gone on the offensive against Congressional Democrats, accusing
them of taking money form the Iranians, and somehow helping them
develop nuclear weapons -in short, treason. When this starts being
believed by the wingers they may consider every Democratic
organization conspirators with the “Axis of Evil.” Since
there is time before Corsi starts his book
promotion tour Goldfish has volunteered to be the point
man for the counteroffensive to make this whole issue a non
story. I just hope there is a way to keep Corsi's book sales down.
4. The supremacy of the
military/avid militarism.
Js7a
brought us this
PSA:
Why the War Was Illegal According to UN Res. 1441. Not only did
the
UK Attorney General warned shortly before the invasion of Iraq that
it could be considered illegal but the Bush Administrations
orders to the UN's weapons inspectors to
leave Iraq were in direct violation of the famed UN Resolution 1441.
JS even gave us the specific provisions that were violated. This
Public Service Announcement was brought to you by the Non-Violent
Anti-fascistic Movement.
5. Rampant Sexism.
FleetAdmiralJ
was first with a well recommended diary about a message from her
School
Board to Senior: You must dress like a girl. This is a little
misleading in that the Principal removed from the yearbook a senior
photo of a lesbian student who worn the Tux instead of a dress in the
photo sitting. The principal also fired the yearbook editor. The
local school board failed to reverse either decision.
C.D.Reid
actually added an important observation in
Take
Action - Sexism, Favoritism in Florida School. The principal is
considered responsible for ignoring the
"preppy
schools E town gang" which is a group of thuggish
jocks known for their pink shirts with upturned collars.
Blush
Response also made the recommended list
when she continued the story of a
Lesbian
Kicked Out of Local Yearbook. This diary actually has the picture
in question and the fact that the mother attempt to purchase ad space
for the picture was thwarted. R
ba
added the actual dress code in a
comment
which doesn't seem to justify the School
Board or the Principal's actions.
Jakal
found this country is backing out of another international obligation
because President
Bush
is Against the International Women's Rights Agreement. This
agreement that was enacted by 189 countries
in 1995 is about to be dropped by the United States unless they
change the focus from condom use and other birth control methods to a
abstinence only educational program. The
Administration will accept women's rights as long as their obstinate.
Does anyone else see the hypocrisy here?
Texas
Dem thinks that at least where it comes to
Abortion:
Fascism comes to Kansas (sort of). This provided more
depth to the story of the Kansas Attorney General's use of Medical
Records to find evidence to prosecute women and Doctors for abortion
law violations
6. A complaisant
mass media.
Electronic
Eric has decided that the WSJ is
Turning
the other cheek to treason. Not only is the
Wall
Street Journal exonerating Robert Novak but they are blaming
Joseph Wilson saying that if he hadn't let the world know that the
Yellowcake claims were unfounded then his wife, Valerie Plame, would
never have been exposed as a CIA operative.
Ed
J want to know
Where's
the parents' outrage? Were seeing sign's of Vietnam era malaise
about the deaths of servicemen in Iraq. Even that liberal media
lexicon the
New York Times is
burying the story of 5 dead soldiers down deep in their International
Section. I saw a blurb on CNN's crawl last night but Michael Jackson
was too important for them to spend time on 5 dead soldiers. Another
struck me as odd about this was that the deaths were lot listed as
combat related because the soldiers died due to an “Improvised
Explosive Device” or roadside bomb. I guess now that they may
have to pay more to the relatives of soldiers “killed in
combat” you will see the definition of killed in combat even
further defined to be actually dying on the battlefield.
7. Obsession with national security.
Swinger
Special found a story that belongs on Ripley's Believe
it or Not but I'll list it here. It seems that the Dept. of
Homeland
Security hires "Gator" adware CPO. D. Reed Freeman, the
Chief Privacy Officer of Claria Marketing, was appointed to a
four-year term on the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) new
Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee. Claria Marketing
brought you the Gator Adware that came with Kazaa and other
applications. I guess with experience in infiltrating and recording
computer usage he will make a great addition to the DHS.
8. Religion and ruling elite are
tied together.
If you believe that since nothing is
listed here it does not exist you need to see my previous editions.
9. Power of corporations protected.
Steve
the Weave gave us an example of mass
Shilling
for the drug industry. It appears that ten
members of the FDA Advisory Board who recommended the continued use
of Vioxx, Bextrol, and Celebrex have been paid consulting fees in
recent years for the drugs' makers. I can do that, it's simple, you
paid me so now I'll see what I can do. Now that's one easy consulting
job. I am now qualified to recommend drugs also.
10. Power of labor suppressed or
eliminated.
If you believe that since nothing is
listed here it does not exist you need to see my previous editions.
11. Disdain for the arts and
Intellectuals.
Snowbelt
dug into the numbers and determined that in the
USA
-The 'A' is not for Arts. He did some deep calculations and
determined that the US is far behind the rest of the industrialized
world in per capita spending on the Arts. I asked him to look at
percent of GDP and see how much worse that is.
Sclminc
let us now about the latest development in the
RightMarch.com
attacks on universities. It seems that David Horrowitz of the
Bill of Academic Wrongs fame has send fund
raising E-mails not that portions of his twisted proposals
have started turning up in state legislatures. For the full text of
the E-mail go see the diary. I recommend against that unless you have
a strong stomach and are in need of a shower.
12. Obsession with crime and
punishment.
If you believe that since nothing is
listed here it does not exist you need to see my previous editions.
13. Rampant cronyism and corruption.
If you believe that since nothing is
listed here it does not exist you need to see my previous editions.
14. Fraudulent elections.
If you believe that since nothing is
listed here it does not exist you need to see my previous editions.
Class Warfare.
Jillian
informed us how
Bush
Continues His War on the Poor and Disabled. In the budget
proposals there is not only a 50% cut in housing assistance for the
poor but a complete elimination of the
funds to provide specially designed housing for the disabled. A
society is measured by how it treats the weakest among them and
Bush's proposed society will be judged as severely
lacking
Propaganda
New Dem did some excellent research and got
the facts on the next unsupportable scandal
as an
Example
of the Right-Wing Noise Machine at Work . The fact that Time's
“Blog of the Year” based a front page story on a
single
blog post that made unsubstantiated
assumptions based on a
nine
year old news story was no surprise to any regular reader of this
series.
Of course
Armando
got all the attention on this where he announced the fact that
Powerline
is Making Shit Up Again; Also Enter Big Contest. Then again the
"Bush MAY BE POISED TO _____" contest, with a front page
space as the prize, may have had more to do with the attention he
got. My entry is Bush MAY BE POISED TO keep Presidency for unlimited
time. And I got a lot more to support that view than Powerline.
Jeff
Boatright let us know about his concern over
NPR
and SS. It appears National Public Radio's reporters have started
talking about ways to make Social Security
solvent. The meme is that Social Security is not solvent and that in
itself plays into the Bush Administrations misrepresentation of the
issue. By the definitions applied to Soc. Sec. not only is Medicare
insolvent but so is the entire federal government. They are attacking
Soc. Sec. because it's the greatest Democratic success and has been
on top of the Republicans hit list since it's inception, and now that
Republicans have total power they think they can finally start
destroying it.
Electile
Disfunction found that
Ari &
WH staff admitted to partisan games - TWO YEARS AGO. This diary
brought to light audio evidence from 2003 that White House Briefings
have been scripted events for at least two years. It seems that Ari
Flesher was admonishing the press corp. for going off script in two
Press Briefings in March 2003. Any questions?
There is hope! Here are some
articles on a way to fight back.
This section is devoted to those who
have done something and are sharing their stories, those who have
suggestions for ways to be active, and those who cry out for
immediate action. I do what little I can. I am becoming active in my
local blue county in the biggest red state. I plan to do as much as I
can when called upon. I'm sure I missed many of these Diaries this
week so my apologies to all.
ColdFusion04
seems to believe that
The
American Conservative has been Reading Kos. Not only did they
have an article earlier this month warning against fascism, but in
this Mondays edition none other than
Pat
Buchanan is telling the truth about how Osama bin-Laden attacked
on 9-11 because of the U S's interventions
and presence in the Middle East but that the war on Iraq was
unjustified. Someone must have replaced some of the Kool-Aid at The
American Conservatives main office. The reason this is a way to fight
back is because CF04 has been continuously writing on this point and
we must all keep writing to keep these issues on the fire. Hopefully
the readers will flame the fires for us.
Georgia
10 has started a website for
Propagannon
Rapid Response. This
new
website is devoted to providing material
to counteract the lies and misrepresentation that are being printed
in defense of James Guckert. We need to send these responses
not only to the major players that write these unrealistic articles
but to the Editors and Writers at the local papers that reprint these
lies.
