UPDATE: I love Jews, my best friend is Jewish
I say that tongue-in-cheek because anytime someone tries to say their not racist or anti-semetic, they just sound like more of an a-hole.
But seriously, this is not about being anti-Jewish. This is about my disappointment in the fact that I don't think America will elect an imminently qualified Jewish man. In the same way, I'm an African-American, and I don't think a Black man can win the presidency in today's America.
This is a continuation of my diary:
Help Kossacks! Which '08 Dem can win? (poll). The question was which, if any, of the 2008 candidates can win both the primary and general election.
The final results saw Russ Feingold win with 30% of the vote.
My guess is that people voted who they WANTED to win the elections as supposed to who actually CAN win the elections.
Honestly, would America elect an unmarried, twice-divorced JEWISH man to the presidency? Again, not what you WANT to happen but what, realistically, CAN happen?
Poll Below The Fold
The context under which I ask this question is:
1. Though he is clearly a Kossack favorite, I wonder if the Kosophere
honestly believes an unmarried, twice-divorced Jewish man can win in America.
and
2. I am actually taking a class where my assignment is to pick a '08 presidential candidate and write a strategy paper for their road to the White House. For the reasons I discuss in the previous diary, I don't think any of the candidates currently preparing for a run are exceptional. Feingold would be an automatic winner, in my opinion, if not for his baggage. Frankly, I doubt he can pick up enough red states to win the presidency.
FYI, in order to win, a Dem needs to get all the Kerry blue states PLUS Missouri, Ohio, or Florida (or a combination of West Virginia, Viginia, Missouri, Iowa, Nevada, and New Mexico).
For you Warner fans, a Dem can win with Kerry states, Virginia and one extra swing state. Warner would be the perfect candidate if not for his lack of charisma/"I wanna have a beer with that guy" appeal. And we know what happens to Dems who are 'the best man for the job' without that last piece (see John Kerry, Al Gore, etc.)
Bottom line, HONESTLY, can a unmarried, twice divorced JEWISH man win 270 electoral votes in America?
