The BIGGEST dirty little secret in U.S. politics:
Republicans say "we love the troops" but vote "screw `em."
From armor, to benefits, the GOP treats the military like their personal "hired help," as
Hunter's diary showed yesterday with the most revealing numbers I have seen.
But we need to GET THE WORD OUT. I already sent the enclosed letter to multiple editors and reporters at the Columbus Dispatch, Cincinnati Enquirer, and Cleveland Plain Dealer. Maybe some of you can use this letter as a model to do the same for your local newspapers, especially to any reporters you know of who care about the troops, or are veterans themselves.
Dear Editors:
This story (below) recently appeared in The Army Times, about numbers put together by the non-partisan Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), and the discrepancy between what politicians say and how they vote when it comes to supporting both active duty troops and veterans.
Do you have anyone on your staff who covers troop and veterans issues? If so, this may be of interest, especially as we come down to election time.
The Army Times story is here:
The IAVA site is here:
And, two bloggers took these numbers and put together charts:
One for the Senate:
And one for the House:
And the same House chart in color is striking:
Sincerely
