As related by A Siegel in his diary yesterday (ENERGIZE AMERICA -- A Brief Update ...), several members of the Energize America team provided to the Congressional Office of the senior Congressperson we've been in touch with a two-page summary of the Neighborhood Power Act. The meeting with the member was cancelled for practical reasons (a vote) but there was a lot of interest from the staff and requests for more.
You can help.
See, right now, A Siegel's ENERGIZE AMERICA: Neighborhood Power Act -- Draft Questions and Answers -- plus a request for help
We need simple things:
- the simplest is to provide feedback and ideas in the diaries that discuss the drafts. All Energize America proposals are built publicly, and discussed in DailyKos diaries - and contributioons from all are welcome - and used, especially if you have any kind of expert knowledge;
- even if you don't have any input to provide on a specific act, you can help others in the community do so by giving visibility to these diaries. They are all titled with "Energize America" (and tagged similarly, of course). You can subscribe to the team leaders that bring you the discussion diaries: A Siegel for the Neighborhood Power Act, chapter1 for the Smart Metering Act, Market Trustee for the Home Efficiency Act. You can also join the Daily Kos Environmentalists community / listserve which simply flags energy/environment diaries to its members;
- if you'd like to do more, there are several other Acts in the original Energize America plan for which we have been asked for draft language. If you'd like to volunteer, or if you know people that might be interested to participate in such an effort, send us a note (A Siegel, devilstower or myself act as de fact coordinators) - the more quality content we can provide, the better the chance that we will be taken seriously and that the full plan stands of chance of actually being implemented.
So go read A Siegel's most recent diary about the visit to the Hill, and remember that this was started by anonymous kossacks, and is still being pursued by anonymous kossacks, in a fully transparent and open way. This is a real opportunity to push "grassroots-driven" policy.
(And a background note: I voluntarily take a backseat in the drafting of these acts, as this is not really my place - but plenty of American kossacks are already involved and you can help too. I'll be happy to keep on helping with the coordination and the posting of diaries here on dKos to keep Energize America visible.)
