This morning I'd been planning on e-mailing Mr. Paul G. Kirk, Jr., to let him know my views on the fact that on Monday, New Orleans had been rejected as a Presidential Debate site. Yesterday under my last diary "New Orleans Was Robbed" NightProwl Kitty provided this link: World Class New Orleans In this blog, a Mr. Clio posts the letter he'd written to Mr. Kirk and also provides a link where he can be reached. Yesterday, while at one of the computers so generously provided by our local library for our use, I was able to link to this page and even pulled up an e-mail address--which unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to write down.
I say unfortunately because for some reason you can't e-mail from the library. So last night I composed a letter in which I let Mr. Kirk know how I feel about this rebuff of New Orleans and listed three demands as to how he can make things right, and planned to e-mail it this morning from my regular computer.
But this is what happened--when I attempted to access Mr. Paul G. Kirk from the World Class New Orleans link, I received a "Page Not Found" message--which of course has no other information as to how to e-mail Mr. Kirk.
So this shows how truly disgusting, not to mention evil, New Orleans' opposition is--Kirk has obviously blocked his e-mail address so he won't have to read any more complaints from New Orleanians or anyone else pissed off by the fact that New Orleans has been rejected as a debate site.
But here's something else we bloggers can do. While writing my letter, I came up with the following three things Mr. Paul G. Kirk needs to do to make things right for New Orleans:
1. Apologize to the city and people of New Orleans and the state and people of Louisiana. Add that the site selection commission's rejection had been in error.
- Tell the truth about New Orleans-- that in fact she would be the perfect site for a presidential debate.
And this last step is the most important, because it's the only way Mr. Kirk and the site selection commission will be doing right by New Orleans:
- Plan, schedule, and announce a FIFTH presidential debate to be held in New Orleans. Issues to be discussed could include not only Katrina recovery, New Orleans, and disaster preparation and response, but also such allied matters as poverty, race relations, the environment--all topics Katrina was supposed to start a national conversation on--but didn't as Katrina recovery got lost in the shuffle and the people of New Orleans were abandoned and forgotten by an uncaring Bush Administration, the mainstream media, and many other Americans.
I'm planning to crosspost this diary with these demands on the other 2 blogs of which I'm a member (in my Blog Roll).
And I'd like your help--if you're as pissed off as I am about New Orleans' rejection and have your own blog or are a member of one, please post the above demands on that blog. In fact, feel free to crosspost the whole diary (as long as you leave my name on it) so readers will know why they can't contact Mr. Kirk directly--which is disgusting.
Since Kirk is blocking his e-mails, we need to see that these demands receive wide exposure. Because New Orleans deserves better than the way she has been treated by Mr. Kirk and his presidential debate site selection committee.
We need a fifth debate in New Orleans--PASS IT ON!
