Photoblogging San Francisco Weekend: Protests and Diversions

This diary is going out with minimal commentary.

Below the fold, see what my perspective looked like from the ground, along with one photo from Sunday's ENOUGH! protest in San Francisco, and a couple of diversions I ran into after each of these protests.

Five of us this weekend, four who were visiting from Texas and planned their trip so they could join the protest before heading back to Texas. One was either a little shy or protecting herself from the brilliant San Francisco sunshine! Seriously though, it was great to have them join me. San Francisco and Bay area folks - how is it that four women from Texas can make the trip to stand with me on Sunday, but other weekends I'm lucky to get one or two others to join me? Wino, you should find some company to join you once you're in Austin.

These guys showed up as the protest wound down.

Remember, it's important to stop and smell the flowers once in a while.

•  "America Is A free Speech Zone" ! ...

  ...I'd give anything to live in the free country our Founding Fathers once invisioned, where it's against the law to be silenced by our government simply for asking a question of our public servants, without fear of reprisal, being muzzled, or facing imprisonment.

  Politicians can say anything to they want get elected to office. We, as a basic inherent right of freedom, should be able to ask them anything pertaining to their performance in fulfilling their oaths of office.

  We should have the right to peacefully assemble to air our greviances, or to seek redress from our elected representatives. When it comes to the point that our government won't hear us peacefully dissent, then it's time through the ballot box, to change that government!

    •  and ya gotta love the ability of a DSLR

      to catch action photos! No shutter-lag here.

      Absolutely love playing with my camera (Nikon D50 with a stock Nikkor 28-80mm lense for anyone curious). Over 600 shots of 6 megapixel jpegs on a 2 gig SD card before needing to delete photos, and only have to recharge batteries roughly every 1800 shots (days of shooting). Highly recommended even for amateur photographers just taking casual and family shots.

  I liked this a lot late yesterday. This morning after a good night's sleep . I looked at again - the "dull" shot of an empty field near the GG Bridge was ultra fine - a site vacated by the people who had gathered - but not a single piece of litter visible , no discernible damage to the
  plants , etc. - told me more than any accompanying text could have. You're real cool people .
