(Diary hint: Kevin Nealon)
I love the Daily Kos (love the Daily Kos). I know many get tired of things which may be encountered here (primary war diaries, trollish behavior), but that’s true in any human community (except mine). We’re human beings, imperfect (but not like conservatives), fallible (but not like conservatives), sometimes selfish (but not like conservatives), sometimes hard-hearted (but not like conservatives), but all of that is just a part of being human.
As Democrats we care about others (Vote Gilda), we care about education (Vote Larry), we care about those who serve us in uniform (Vote for any soldier), we care about our non-human friends (Vote Best Friends), we care about those less fortunate than ourselves (Vote for others), we care about children (Vote Children).
There is a deep and abiding moral fundament beneath our positions, and it is important to always speak from that moral core when engaging with others, particularly potential voters. George Lakoff has described how conservatives use their moral viewpoint to influence (manipulate) the electorate. Of course, we disagree with their values (conservative values suck), but it doesn’t change the fact that they have been very successful electorally because of how effectively they have articulated that world view (Weltanschauung) and activated conservative models in large portions of the electorate. Democrats are beginning to counter that more effectively, but much work remains to be done (Be the change you wish to see).
I have some friends on this blog who have ... lost patience with the hostile energy sometimes generated in a contentious election cycle, such as the one we have now. While I understand the frustration, even share it on occasion, I don’t think withdrawing is the answer (withdrawing isn’t the answer). One can do as John Mayer suggests, and wait on the world to change ...
Or, one can change the world oneself, by staying active (stay active), by contributing a great and positive energy (contribute a great, positive energy) and by persevering (As Chief Dan George said in The Outlaw Josey Wales, endeavor to persevere).
Before I get to tonight’s comments, a brief pause.
(Be receptive to subliminal suggestion when it comes to Democratic campaigns and causes.)
(These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.)
(Vote Heather Ryan)

(Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.)
(Treat pets and all animals with love and respect.)
(Lieberman sucks.)
(Don’t make tpyos, and don’t obsess abotu it if you do.)
(Believe in your power to make a difference and act on that belief.)
