I know others have diaries about this, and I apologize, but I want to focus on a part of John McCain's defense of G. Gordon Liddy that I didn't see in other diaries. I think it's important enough that it is more than a comment. Here's what McCain said on the Letterman show last night:
"Did you not have a relationship with Gordon Liddy?" Letterman asked about Watergate burglar G. Gordon Liddy.
McCain said he knew him. Then, after a commercial break, McCain said, "I know Gordon Liddy. He paid his debt, he went to prison ... I'm not in any was embarrassed to know Gordon Liddy."

Liddy paid his debt? Are you nuts? He paid his debt for Watergate, not for being a terrorist.
Back in 1994 -- just a year and a half after the first World Trade Center bombing, two years after Ruby Ridge, and one year before the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing -- G. Gordon Liddy had this terroristic advice for people just after the standoff with the Branch Davidians at Waco:
"Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests. ... Kill the sons of bitches."
He said this during a nationally syndicated radio show. And wasn't fined by the FCC or put in jail for incitement to riot.
Even better, he backed off and apologized for the remark by saying he should have recommended people shoot federal law enforcement officers in the groin instead of the head!
Liddy never served a day in jail for this, and his apology was to suggest different body parts to put a bullet in. But McCain is not in any way embarrassed by this. I guess the converse is that he's proud to be associated with a man who thinks federal law enforcement officers are "sons of bitches" who should be shot in the crotch?
The man is still a terrorist, and still incites people to hate America.
Bill Ayers turned himself in to the authorities in 1975, was found not guilty in a court of law, and incites people to educate children better.
Now can someone explain to me why it is David Letterman and Joy Beyhar (sp?) and other comedians who are catching McCain up on these things and not the "real" media that should be doing it?
