Lost in the buzz over Harry Reid's somewhat strange statement yesterday that negotiators are "leaning towards talking about a public option" was the fact that he also explicitly took responsibility for deciding whether or not a public option will ever reach the Senate floor.
When the decision's made to send this on to the CBO, I will have made a decision as to what we're going to do with the public option.
Recall that last week he refused to answer a reporter's question about Chuck Schumer's contention that the fate of the public option was in Reid's hands. Now he's finally acknowledging it. Whether or not that's progress is something we'll be finding out soon enough.
