UPDATE: The Lincoln Memorial venue opens at 6:00AM on 10.2.10. Early birds will get the best seats/stands.
Well, what a week. More and more reasons to GET ON THE BUS or Attend a rally near you on 10.2.10.
Also, you may have noticed that the media is crickets (except for Ed) about the 10.2.10 People's March on Washington. So, Please rec this up.
And, let's all write to ask the media to help build up some excitement about 10.2.10.
Please email Keith, Rachel, Jon, and Stephen:
KOlbermann@msnbc.com
rachel@msnbc.com
http://www.comedycentral.com/...
And a thank you note to Ed:
http://www.bigeddieradio.com/... or EdSchultz@theedshow.com
A couple of Action items below. We need your help to get the word out.
UPDATE: One Nation Working Together has updated their website. It looks like the Mother Ship (hear that JimP). Here's the link to stay in touch with 10.2.10 March Details:
http://www.onenationworkingtogether....
Action Request 1:
Please email Keith, Rachel, Jon and Stephen. And sent a thank you note to Ed. Their email addresses are in the intro.
Action Request 2:
Will you write a diary if you see there isn't one posted. Please begin the title with 10.2.10 March. By doing this, more google search results show up. And, if there is at least one 10.2.10 March diary on the list of 50 diaries at all times, those who still haven't heard of it will have a chance. Thank you.
Action Request 4:
Please help spread the word about the 10.2.10 March on Washington to any/all you know in DC. People there haven't heard about this. The media in DC is crickets.
Here is something I have been doing.
Did you know you can sign up for the Washington Post for free AND leave comments? You can. While you're there drop a comment into Chris Cilliza's The Fix column (I got a few in, but now they are monitoring comments, but try anyway), and any other WaPo article that allows comments.
Here's the comment I added to this article Palin hits Obama, GOP establishment in Iowa speech this morning. I then copy and pasted it to Chris Cilizza's The Fix:
VoiceofReason wrote:
Join thousands who want to BE THE CHANGE.
Thousands of progressive organizations, under the banner of
One Nation Working Together,
are marching and rallying at the Lincoln Memorial.
10.2.10 March on Washington
You can find out all you need to know about this soon to be historical gathering here:
http://www.onenationworkingtogether....
If you want to stand up, united in purpose, for progressive policies, just show up.
If we don't show up, democracy is weakened.
9/18/2010 10:37:45 AM END OF COMMENT SUBMITTED.
And, good news, Cillizza's moderator allowed the 10.2.10 March announcement to be published! Someone saw it today. I also posted it in several other political articles.
Please, join this effort. DC reads WaPo. Also, you can do the same in many of your local newspapers. We can spread the word with a bit of a concerted effort.
Thank you
.
This week The Tea Party scored some victories. We know they have war chests full of corporate cash. And we know that if they succeed and gain control over Congress that the entire country runs the risk, because of a prolonged joblessness economic recovery, of looking like the Republican states below:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/...
And we know the media isn't helping The People enough. So, please, write to them. Share the One Nation Working Together blog link with them. It's easier for them to peruse.
The TeaPublicans are focused on 'values issues', and stripping social safety nets and corporate regulations. Some values!
We must expose them for what they are. Hopefully they will implode. However, the media seems quite committed to covering them 24/7.
We must share what we are for: Fairness for All: living wages, affordable health care, quality education, to name a few.
That said, here is this weeks Mother Ship:
Please give a Shout Out to JimP for providing the Color Banners. He has a gift! And to Aaraujo's Great Diary Posted Earlier Today that made the Rec List, DiegoUK for his Find a Sponsor project, and to everyone here who is helping to get this information out there.
Thank you! It's working, but we must keep it up, especially in the DC area. Call, tweet, facebook, twitter everyone you know within driving distance of DC and DC.
And thanks to the Staff of One Nation Working Together for hustling to greatly improve their website this week. You should check it out. They have added many new links providing much more information. The new links are 'drop downs' from the main links.
We have to BE the change. We must win seats in November.
The so-called Enthusiasm Gap is about to be closed.
G E T O N T H E BUS !!
National organizations have come together to create One Nation Working Together. Click on this picture to go to their website.
WHO?
Our People. Nuestra Gente. It is time that every community come together and demand the change that we voted for in 2008. ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER is not just for one community, it is for all communities, it is for OUR community. We hope to galvanize those deeply affected by our struggling economy: Youth (College and Non College), Women, Faith Community, Working Class Citizens, Unionized Workers, and the Immigrant Population.
WHAT?
"ONE NATION WORKING TOGETHER is about reordering out nation's priorities to invest in our most valuable resource-our people."
We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve the American Dream-a secure job, a safe home and a quality education. We want provide an opportunity for people who care about the state of our government, our jobs and our economy the chance to speak out with their voice and their bodies in Washington, DC. We want to come together and speak on behalf of the millions of people who have been affected by our economic downturn in the past few years. We will fight for meaningful, stable jobs, homes we can call our own, the opportunity for our children to obtain a quality education regardless of economic circumstances and the chance to become an American citizen and contribute to improving America. Our Dream is simple-the American Dream.
WHERE?
We are going to March on Washington on October 2, 2010 (10.2.10). Whether we come by car, bus, plane or train, we will mobilize tens of thousands of people to march in solidarity at the Nation's Capitol in order to protect our jobs, our education and our economy.
WHEN?
10.2.10 (October 2, 2010)
WHY?
We want to build a movement.
We will march because we are frustrated and unsatisfied with the status quo. We have a chance to galvanize a movement for the majority of people for justice in America. We can build a movement that both looks like America and resonates with all segments of the American family. We can build an authentically diverse coalition of our Black, Brown, Red, and White Brothers and Sisters that is rooted in our country's democratic and progressive traditions. Finally, we will reclaim American themes and traditions - a more perfect union, common good and justice for all.
We will build diverse community coalitions that represent what our neighbors and cities look like. We will phone bank, canvass, plan events, and physically outreach to the community using our relations and grassroots tactics to not only get people on the bus to Washington, D.C., but to build a movement that people can resonate with and believe in.

I can share that this is going to be HUGE. You've probably heard that Ed Shultz will be one of the many speakers. Good for Ed. He walks his talk.
Also, ONWT has added a Transportation Link to their Website where you can find two tools: Find a Bus and Find a Ride. They are in their infant stage, but do go there and if you are willing to drive sign up, or you need a ride sign up, or you are looking for a bus. AND, YOU CAN PUT TOGETHER A BUS and register it here, too. The RFK Stadium has been acquired by ONWT for the day, but the buses must be registered prior to arrival. If you go to this link and scroll down, you can read the hugely incomplete list of buses and details about them being offered and registered with ONWT.
Again, there are over 2,200 NAACP offices nationally. You can go to this link to locate the offices in your state. If you call them, you will find out about buses in your area. Not all areas are offering buses.
Find an NAACP Office near you.

YOU WILL AVOID LONG TICKET LINES IF YOU PURCHASE A DC METRO SmarTrip Card to get from the RFK Statium to the Lincoln Memorial and avoid the lines to buy a ticket.
What Is a SmarTrip® Card?
A SmarTrip® card is a permanent, rechargeable farecard. It's plastic, like a credit card, and is embedded with a special computer chip that keeps track of the value of the card.
Using a SmarTrip® card is fast and easy. Instead of inserting a farecard through the Metrorail faregate slot, you simply touch the SmarTrip® card to the circular targets on top of or inside station faregates. Likewise, you can tap the SmarTrip® farebox on Metrobus to pay your fare with SmarTrip®.
To find information on purchasing a Washington DC Met Smart Card you can go to this
Information link. You will find a link to buy the SmarTrip Card on line. If you buy the daily pass, you can save a lot of money.
REALLY GOOD NEWS UPDATE: One Nation Working Together has updated their website. Specifically, they have added an event finder/creator. Click on this Link where you will see where planning meetings, etc. are set up prior to 10.2.10, AND you can create your own. You can get ONWT going in your area.
Here are a couple of tricks that will help you navigate the Events Scheduler.
If you are interested in events in the North East, you will have to zoom in to find the details because the "orange markers" are too close together. Also, there isn't an ability to copy/paste the events (will work on that), so if you want to share with others, you will have to forward the link to them.
You can create your own event or as a creative tool. I used this feature to broadcast myself as a contact person in my state for people interested in getting ONWT off the ground in my area. You can get ONWT going in your area in the same manner.
NAACP has events frequently, and you may find some that are Bus planning events here:

Navigating the March - DC TIPS from Sarbec. Thank you Sarbec.
How to get to the March -
March activities are happening at the Lincoln Memorial. The three closest Metro stations are:
--Smithsonian (orange and blue lines), just over a mile walking, should take about 25 minutes, nice walk along the National Mall.
--Foggy Bottom (orange and blue lines), a mile walking, about 22 minutes, down 23rd St NW through/by GWU and federal buildings.
--Arlington Cemetery (blue line), just under a mile, about 15 minutes, across the Memorial Bridge.
There's not really a best way, but Arlington Cemetery will likely be less crowded.
You can also walk from L'Enfant Plaza, Federal Triangle, or Archives/Navy Memorial, though those are going to more like a 35-45 minute walk.
There's not a whole lot around the Mall, by way of food.
There is a concession stand near Lincoln, which should be open.
The museum cafes will be open, and most of them are pretty good, but they are expensive.
There should be sidewalk vendors for snacks and water.
You can bring food and drink with you as long as it's not in glass containers and no alcohol.
AND Please Do Not Litter.
Anything else, and you'll have to leave the Mall itself
(Penn Quarter is a great place to find lots of restaurants, and it's probably the closest, but it's still a good 30-45 minute walk from Lincoln).
Also, Union Station stop has some great restaurants if you don't mind a train ride.
