Welcome to the continuing "pre-season" of the New York Times Link Club, designed to let people who can't afford online subscriptions continue to enjoy the New York Times. The chicken-wire payfence is not yet in effect (except for Canadians), so this is mostly a test (except for Canadians. Help us out, Canadians! Are these links working for you?)
After three days, it's becoming more clear how this should work, though not yet how it will work.
We have two options: one is to queue a "shell" diary ahead of time with no stories in it. (Ideally, it will have a set of section headers and boilerplate links, which we still need to work out.) Then, before or after it is published, we can fill in links for that day. The other is to wait until someone puts together a diary with lots of links in it, as I've done here -- but you'll notice that it didn't happen until about 11:30 a.m. Eastern (what with me being on the west coast), which leaves something to be desired.
What we really need are more people willing to be editors, who can get a day's diary queued up and who can update the stories over the course of the day. Right now, this is not so critical -- but when the payfence goes up on Monday, we'll want it more. If you want to be an editor, let me know.
See previous diaries in this series: intro, 3/23, 3/24 for more discussion.
