The WeeklyBug comes to you every Friday; detailing the Bad, Ugly and Good of the days prior. Keeping more with pun intended, this week we will dwell on a discussion about glitchesand fixes for DK4 users.
THE BAD
Much banter has buzzed around this week about adapting to the constant updates of DK4. We have experiend so quirks and glitches that are sometimes - down right frustrating. Yesterday, every time I clicked upon a comment to view same; I was bounced over to a new page - with just that comment alone. Don't know why this transpires; but it defeats the effort to respond - while looking at what everyone else is saying.
Also, we did take notice, that in the adminstrators line of edit, delete and republish; a new button was added that states "push to top". Which I have dared not touched yet; having no idea what would occur. That, combined with the fact that sometimes when I hit save or edit; an error message comes up - is pure frustration!
Complicating my efforts to zoom along and view as many diaries as one can; tipping and rec'ing along the way. We did then encounter a new frustration. It would appear that the powers that be have decided that, in some cases; you can only recommend a comment for only 24 hours from time of publish. Somehow I feel cheated of my chance to not only give support; but let others see that I support the issues.
THE UGLY = Comment gripes and comment wars
A jab at the verbal/digital wars in the DK comments realm. Beyond the birther battles that transpired this past week; and the fanfare that goes beyond thumping of Trump's hair. We have seen massive discussions about bitching, trolling, snarking (without informing) and digital verbal wars UGLY. From newbies trying to impress, to others who have nothing better to do than rant & rave on any perceived easy target; some diary comments and discussions are becoming down right nasty.
Now there are diaries discussing the issues of mean assaults and the lack of moderations by the "moderators". I believed since the beginning, the one liberty that makes Daily Kos great; is that "we" are the moderators. We are the groups. We are those who follow and comment. We are the ones anxiously waiting for what Chris emails on a call to action.
Here, a new DK'r, found the battled heated and reported on how it frustrated him so; but a TU emailed him privately - not to give up. (See Chris Chasteen's diary "A Diarist's Grow Pains - A Lesson Learned and a Thank You ( here)).
Much more banter about comment warmongers and the need for better moderations shall transpire. Acting like adults shall continue to be the order of the day for good DK'rs far and wide! As for myself, I simply utilize the root word of the problem to create the solution; when dealing with ignorance - Ignore it!
THE GOOD
Fortunately, Chasteen's Thank goes out to DK'r bajadudes; for sending Chasteen a private email - not to take the hateful banter to heart! Kudos to bajadudes, for his olive branch, his diaries and his uncanny insight into many issues.
Concerning the bugs and glitches throughout the DK4 realm. Some say it is me, some say it is my browser; others say I should simply switch to Chrome. Not having any idea what Chrome was (other than OC Choppers bike frames protocol); I searched around and came across DK'r weatherdude. He supplied his own empirical research on the issues of how Google Chrome works better than Firefox (though he does denote that Chrome drove him nuts previously). You can see his research and reflections at his Diary "DK4: Chrome vs. Firefox ( here). I have just learned how to post pictures, embed videos and put comments with pictures (by align="left" or "right"). I think that we will always be learning more and more.
With the NN big bang just around the corner; I am enjoying all the buzz, teams, banter and being part of an effort to get together. It is REAL Cool!
Finally, in a personal Good sidenote. Those that have followed my working with 87 year old Adriana Goldstein were informed that I had to call the State to help her. She was starving herself to death and flushing the monies we provided her down the toilet (as a safe place). The protocol for the State is to not reveal where a person was taken; so we went nuts for a month. Finally she did write a letter to her favorite restaurant - having a business card for the address thereof; to give to the cab drivers. So I do intend to see her tomorrow and let her know we are still with her and care about here.
Enjoy the weekend and do something nice for someone - Please!
