Remember when Marco Rubio auditioned for the GOP's vice presidential nomination by saying Social Security and Medicare had made America weak?
Well, now he's trying to turn criticism of his dumb claim into a
fundraising opportunity, saying his speech "drove extreme liberals crazy" and urging people to donate to his PAC to support his message.
Obviously, there's nothing particularly shocking or controversial about that—"my enemies are out to get me" is the oldest fundraising tactic in the book. But I hope it works for Rubio. Because anything that encourages him to keep on publicly admitting he believes that Social Security and Medicare made America weak brings us one step closer to the end of his political career.
