I took my video camera to the Occupy Wall Street march to the Brooklyn Bridge last Saturday (Oct 1), and documented the march, the trapping of the protesters on the bridge roadway, and their arrests (video posted previously).
Many of us witnessed and recorded the first wave of arrests from above on the presumably legal-to-occupy walkway that runs down the center of the bridge. But then the police showed up with their netting, and forced us off the walkway. I guess it was too much to let us continue to observe the arrests going on below. As I was taking a last shot, a minstrel strolled into the frame – a young musician who goes by the name GioSafari – playing a familiar tune. So I kept rolling as we headed back to Manhattan.
The whole thing was completely unrehearsed and spontaneous. But the music (and, I hope, the images I've added) summed up the day and the powerful feelings it evoked.
