So tomorrow is Groundhog Day. Follow me below the dingledoodlesquiggliedividerthingie fold for groundhogs, winter, and six more weeks...
As tradition holds, tomorrow morning at 7:25am a groundhog in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania will emerge from its burrow. If it sees its shadow (in other words, if it's sunny) we get six more weeks of winter. If it's cloudy, then no shadow, and spring comes early.
Yeeaahhhhhhh. A weather-prediction rodent. Next you'll be telling me that the skewed voting preferences of a small number of citizens in only a few states determines who's best fit to represent their party in a campaign for the United States Presidency.
Oh. That's a poor analogy. My bad....
Groundhog Day has its origins in the Christian holiday Candlemas, which has its origins in the far older holiday Imbolc, celebrated at the midpoint of Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.
So how accurate is Punxsutawney Phil, Weather Prophet Extraordinaire? According to the Stormfax Almanac, a mere 39% of the time. This winter, in New England at least, I'm not so sure it really matters. Six more weeks of the winter we're having means six more weeks of weather between 30-50°F and no snow. I can live with that.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From phonegery:
Susan G. Komen Foundation is not supporting Planned Parenthood? As clio2 shows, that decision is causing a lot of 'well, then...'
From Wee Mama:
In this great diary about how Republicans steal music, this comment by thenekkidtruth explains why they have to steal it (and the thread is good, too)
This thread begun by OleHippieChick speculates on how Gingrich uses a teleprompter. (fair warning - you may need brain bleach at some point)
From Dragon5616:
