paradise50's quilt begins...
The beginning of paradise50's quilt

Our friend, BeninSC, was in a terrible bicycle accident.  He was found in the road and doesn't remember what hit him.  He's suffered multiple broken bones and is looking at a long recovery.  And while he has been bed bound, he's developed a blood clot in his leg, to boot.

This is his helmet -- it protected him but I understand he still suffered a fracture in his skull.

This is a CT scan, an anterior view of his fractured clavicle and scapula. You can see clearly see the crack in the collarbone and the large fracture running down the scapula

Here is an x-ray of his pelvis.  The pelvis was fractured in three places, with the head of the femur sticking in the pelvis through the joint.  Ben was so fortunate - the orthopedic surgeons did an absolutely beautiful job recreating his hip joint.

Clearly, BeninSC was horribly injured.  He has a long recovery ahead and any support we can give in the way of messages on a quilt will serve him very well.  It's a way we can all be with him as he heals.  Will you leave a message for Ben?

Just leave your message in the comments.  I will transcribe it in archival ink on muslin and it will then be sewn into his quilt.  No need to donate to leave a message -- but if you can, we appreciate the support because it is our living (my sister and me) to make these quilts.  Materials are expensive and they do take time to make.  A donation of $10/message is suggested.  Here is a PayPal link -- or message me for a snail mail address if you prefer to send checks.

Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
