Last Sunday the NJ Star Ledger endorsed Ron C Rice for Cobgress in the June 5th primary. Ron was endorsed over State Senator Nia GIll, and Donald Payne Jr.
But the dispiriting truth is that his claim to the seat is based entirely on his last name. Payne, who heads the Newark City Council and serves as a freeholder in Essex County, has only the vaguest grip on key federal issues. He is simply not ready for the job, and hasn’t done his homework.
On federal issues, Gill has little too offer. Like every candidate, everywhere, she says jobs are her first priority. But she lacks even a remotely credible plan to create them.
Then there’s Ronald C. Rice. He’s been a smart, energetic and effective councilman in Newark, known for working long hours and building bridges. The son of state Sen. Ronald L. Rice, he helped Mayor Cory Booker clean up the city’s troubled ethics and drive down the rate of violent crime.

I first met Ron in early 2006 at a DFA meeting in NJ, Ron is a founding member of the NJ chapter of DFA. Ron was running for Newark City council in the west ward, and well, I was flush so I wrote him a $200 check.
Ron will probably win Newark, but the suburban vote will go for a split, between Nia Gil and Donald Payne jr and Ron Rice, with Payne picking up the lions share.
Oh and Payne is running on Line "A", did I mention that?
Ron Rice is running on Line "B".
And incidentally, Moveon.org is helping to organize progressive dems to run for county committee on Line "B". They have nearly 50 candidates for County Committee. Ron Rice, coincidentally has about 150 county committee candidates also running on line "B".
And..... Neil Gorfinkle who is an SEIU organizer (Deaniac), has been working on an insurgency movement in the county committee for over 2 years.
Right, it could get interesting in Essex county NJ on June 5th....
Remember the old Dean thing about writing checks with the 1 cent? $20.01?
Right- LOL- we still do it. I wrote Ron a $60.01 check last week at a house party, where Ron picked up his $2,500 check from DFA, which comes with the DFA endorsement.
You can help.... yes, the ask...... 5 bucks and one cent... gotta have the one sent. But only if you can afford it, only if your rent is paid and you have food on the table.
And under no circumstances forget to put the one cent in there.......
