I just found out I'm going to get to meet Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz tomorrow morning as a guest of a Monroe County Democratic Committee member. I think there's a pretty good chance I might get the opportunity to ask her a question, but it'd probably just be one, and I'm not sure what to ask!
Please comment on this blog with your suggestions, the more anti-establishment the better, but it needs to be serious and I prefer a specific policy question. Thanks everyone!
10:25 PM PT: Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
If I get the chance, I will probably ask her about marijuana decriminalization and spending public funds on more worthy endeavors than imprisoning people for private marijuana possession and use, I really like that question.
I honestly have no idea how many people will be there or anything like that, but I will ask about some of the other things you brought up too if I get the chance. Thanks again for your suggestions!
Tue Jul 17, 2012 at 11:57 AM PT: Although I had the wording of a question about decriminalizing marijuana ready to go, I regret to inform you kind folks that I didn't get to ask Debbie Wasserman Schultz a question this morning.
I think she tried to call on me, but someone in front of me who had just asked a question started asking another question before I started to speak and she didn't stop him. I didn't want to interrupt him, but I raised my hand a bunch of times after that and she didn't call on me again. She specifically asked for people who hadn't asked a question yet, so I guess she thought I had.
It was still great to hear her speak in person for the first time and shake her hand. The crowd gathered at an Obama for America headquarters in Wilkes-Barre, PA was entirely made up of elected Democrats and Democratic candidates and activists of all levels (and I mean all levels). I'd say around 20 - 30 people. I met a few new people, made a few new contacts, saw some of my buddies like State Representative Mike Carroll and soon-to-be U.S. Congressman Matt Cartwright, and had a great experience overall.
I will post one more update that will have the picture that was taken of me, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Maureen Madden (Democratic candidate for PA House whose campaign I help organize) as soon as it's online!
