Hi all, I am not very good at asking for help but I don't know what to do. I have seven furbabies, all of them feral rescues and each with their own issue or two that came from living outdoors on their own..one is FIV+ etc. But that isn't the one that needs help.
Just to explain, I live on a disability income of 900 a month and that is it, disability due to major depression and severe anxiety. These guys keep me going, they are my own personal therapy cats in some ways because I have to get out of bed or go to the store to get the food and otherwise help myself by helping them. In February Misty got an ear infection, we thought.
Well we threw antiobiotics at it, one after another for the most common and then finally i had to bite the bullet and get a culture done and we discovered it was Pasturella. I am relieved we know what to do and the Dr. tried to save me money by writing to the dermatology specialist instead of referring me. She didn't clear up though and her poor face is losing hair under her ear due to the gook, she is in pain that i can sort of control with topical steroids but needed help. I have been frantic.
So I bit the bullet again and went to see the specialist.
Misty has a mass in her ear, almost certainly no ear drum left and it came up from the middle ear. It won't resolve medically. There are two options and i am hamstrung a bit with one and a lot with the other. The first is plain old traction under a general anaesthetic. It has a 50% success rate, they do often recur unfortunately. The other problem is if it will come out by traction at all. The low estimate incl taxes was 1033 and the high 1400. The other option is surgery going in from below where there is just a thin layer of bone and removing it surgically. this has about a 100% success rate. That adds on another 1000 or so though in cost. They believe it is a polyp because she is only 4.
So without much option I chose the first one but was wondering if anyone would be able to help a bit. Even a small bit would make sure it gets done. By not doing much grocery shopping, using money that my friend had set aside for a major bill of hers we have about 60%. Its the best hospital in the city, a 24 hour emergency and specialist hospital and to be honest they save me money all the time but this is one time i need to come up with it.Obviously i preferred the 100% option but...needs must.
I dont want to put her to sleep for an ear infection or mass. She is so special, she mothers the other cats, gives them baths..even if they don't think they need it lol. She makes me laugh and sleeps at my side and brightens every day no matter how bleak it seems at first.
I feel like a fool asking, Im not a big name in this community, and haven't posted much lately because of my own issues. Read every day though. If someone can my paypal is Kay.J.Davis@gmail.com or the hospitals phone number is 1-613-731-6851and for Misty chart/file number 14205. I promise to pay it forward though. I am now so embarrassed. but didn't know what to do and want her to get help. I may have to ptu her down anyway but she deserves at least an attempt to fix her.
Fri Aug 17, 2012 at 5:03 PM PT: THANK YOU! to every one of you kind and generous people who donated money, tips or just a word of encouragement. She will definitely get the traction procedure now thanks to a whopping total of 719.00 I am simply overwhelmed at the generosity and caring of everyone for my little Misty. She sends head butts and kisses to everyone as well.
I will update again after wednesday with the news of if they managed to pull it out or not.
