Appearing on Morning Joe, Chris Matthews schooled RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. He took him to the woodshed, he eviscerated him, he destroyed him. Priebus was left shivering and exposed and could only mutter 'garbage'.
Laughably, members of the right wing are 'concerned' that this dose of sunshine on the GOP's toxic tactics may have the effect of discouraging guests from appearing on the "only balanced show" in MSNBC's lineup. They're so sure of the correctness of their talking points that they can't appear on TV to defend them, I guess.
I was horrified this morning by the display by Matthews this morning. He can’t seem to get the format of the show. He thinks he’s on Hardball when he’s not. People don’t come on the Morning Joe to be assaulted and yelled at. Even Mika and the others were horrified by Matthews’ behavior. You could see them cringe. And for the most part Priebus sat and listened.
Well of course they were, Matthews broke the unwritten rules.
This poses a real problem for “Morning Joe.” Unlike MSNBC’s prime time lineup, the show has generally been able to attract top-tier Republicans, such as Gov. Chris Christie, Rep. Paul Ryan, and Chairman Preibus. Unlike the ideological shows, “Morning Joe’s” cachet has generally come from being an “insider’s” show — must-see TV for opinion leaders on both sides of the aisle. But at some point, that could end. A good way to avoid that possibility would be to ensure that Matthews — who clearly has some anger problems to deal with — is no longer capable of hijacking the program.
They shouldn’t have him on again.
Well of course they shouldn't. That would run the risk of having their xenophobic racism thrown back in their faces and force them to defend their positions.
Priebus was stunned at being challenged and had no response other than 'garbage'. But dammit, when he got home, he thought of a great retort to Chris Matthews. His hard hitting rapier like wit really left a mark.
“If more than 10 people actually watched his show I’d actually care,” Priebus told a gaggle of reporters Monday. “But they don’t. So whatever.”
Speaking to reporters gathered at the Republican National Convention, Priebus said of the “Hardball” host: “When someone wants take the prize [for] being the biggest jerk in the room, he made the case for us.”
He dismissed the importance of the televised segment during which Matthews had attacked him, and said he would still happy to appear on MSNBC.
“Sure. I mean I’m happy to go on MSNBC. I tell you what, Joe and Mika, they weren’t too happy about it,” he said about the “Morning Joe” hosts. “The feeling in the room was clearly that there was a lot of unhappiness directed towards Chris.”
