Just as I finished reading Eric Cantor's "happy entreprenuer/small business day" (thanks to Little Purple USA) and I commented that my 89 year old dad would be thrilled to know this:/, I get an email from my dad. A definite first for Labor Day ever. I have to share:
"On this day in 1946, As a Journeyman Shipfitter in Local No. 9, I marchd up Market Street with hundred if not thousands of other loyal union members representing
all kinds of trades and services in San Francisco. I doubt if such a number will ever march up Market Street again.
I should tell you that as an employee of the Navy Yard there was no requirement to be a member of a union, but I strongly supported the Unions then as I do to this day.
Happy Labor day."
He's as Democrat as you can be. His hearing was destroyed in one ear from working in ships with no ear protection. He says to me every day - how can any working person be a Republican?
On this day with one family member working his underpaid and overworked retail job and another serving his third Army deployment, this time in Afghanistan, I have no answer. I know none of my family is- we're all Democrats! And we VOTE.
