Orange Squiggle of Down-Ticket Power

EDR compiles, describes and links election related diaries for down-ticket races through the closing months of election seasons. Down-ticket means any non-Presidential race.

This group was formed by the producers of a front page diary series that rescued election related diaries in 2006, 2008 and 2010. 2012 marks the first election since Daily Kos was born that there is blog devoted to election coverage - Daily Kos Elections.
Election Diary Rescue is proud to be a part of this project.

EDR chronicles the passion, power and effectiveness of political engagement and shines a light on candidates and issues that might be missed during an action-packed election cycle. It gives quick access to races, hopefully inspires people to write about contests that interest them, and has become an archive for thousands of election related diaries over the years. For the archive of this project, founded by sidinny, please go to our EDR closing diary for the 2010 election which links all the rescued diaries since 2006.

Format, Schedule & Tags:

Diarists can help the EDR mining team by identifying the race in the diary title, for example: (FL-14) or (GA-Gov) or (NY-Sen). Our miners will also be searching by tags so it will help if diarists include the tags "elections" and/or "EDR" in their diary tag list. New this year, you can write your first sentence or two as the synopsis you would like to see in the EDR description.

EDR's schedule for mining diaries is noon to noon. Our publishing schedule is in the evening. That means for example if you post your diary at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, we will include it in the EDR list in Thursday evening's post. If you publish your diary at 11:59 am on Thursday, it will be in the diary collection for Thursday evening as well.

Senate

[AZ-Sen] Down Ticket Dynamics by piratedan – Diarist highlights the race between Richard Carmona (D), a former surgeon general, and Jeff Flake (R, AZ-06) for retiring Senator Jon Kyl’s (R) seat.

[MA-Sen] Dear Senator (to be) Warren, by Susan from 29 – As incumbent Scott Brown’s (R) new ad launches with its appeal to independent voters to split the ticket, the diarist suggests that Elizabeth Warren (D) run on the need to elect Democratic Senators to prevent the Republicans from obstructing President Obama’s agenda.

House

[FL-26] Only in Miami! Rep. Rivera's Pal on the Lam from FBI by Limelite - Diarist reports that Florida is in the middle of an FBI probe of election fraud by South Dade Republican Congressman David Rivera, and the key witness with regard to the money trail is on the lam and unavailable for testifying this week. Rivera (FL-25) is running against Joe Garcia (D) in the new Congressional District 26.

[Il -08] Seeking to Privatize Veterans Health Care by jimstaro - Diarist opposes the privatization of veterans’ health care and includes video of Tammy Duckworth’s (D) 2012 DNC speech, which discusses her experiences serving in the military as well as with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Her opponent is Joe Walsh (R).

[Il -08] Joe Walsh to Sandra Fluke: Get a Job! by Vyan - Diarist posts video of Joe Walsh’s (R) self-described rant about Sandra Fluke and her speech at the 2012 DNC. His opponent is Tammy Duckworth (D).

[NH-01] Congressman Guinta Deceives Voters Once Again by NH LABOR NEWS - Incumbent Frank Guinta (R) is at it again, evading open town halls and his constituents. Carol Shea-Porter (D) is the better choice for Granite Staters.

[NH-01-02] New Hampshire voters have a choice: Social Security and Medicare or private accounts and vouchercare by Laura Clawson - Voters in both New Hampshire House districts face the choice between Republican incumbents who voted with Paul Ryan to end Medicare as we know it and who have supported privatizing or ending Social Security, and Democratic challengers who promise to be champions for these important programs.

[NV-03/NV-04] NV-03/NV-04: Guess Who's Come to Las Vegas LGBT Pride by atdnext - Both John Oceguera and Steven Horsford rode in the Las Vegas Pride Parade with HRC Las Vegas and local Stonewall Democrats. Oceguera (D) is running to unseat Joe Heck (R) in NV-03, while Horsford (D) is running against Danny Tarkanian (R) in Nevada’s new Congressional District 4.

State

[WA-St.Sen] I'm a second choice for State Senate, and need a bunch of advice by Kitsap River – Our own Kitsap River is asking for help on how to run a campaign.  Let’s get working Kossacks!

Ballot Initiatives

[MI-Prop3] What Michigan Needs to Know about The 25% Renewable Energy Standard Proposal (Proposal 3) by Muskegon Critic - This November, Michiganders will be able to vote to amend Michigan's constitution to increase our renewable energy standard to 25% by 2025. That's 25% of our power from renewable resources such as wind, solar, or biomass. That's clean power whose components can be, and already are, manufactured right here in Michigan.

Various

[Sen-Var] Control of the Senate by stealthisbook - A look at the importance across the board of keeping Republicans from taking over the Senate, and how Obama's electoral college superiority this cycle can help in this area.

[TX-Sen-Judicial] Today I met Paul Sadler, our next U.S. Senator from the great state of Texas! by JayRaye - Diarist makes a case for Paul Sadler (D) as a candidate who deserves our support based on his policy positions. Sadler is running against Ted Cruz (R-Tea) for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R)... Another great speech was given by Rebeca Martinez who is running for Justice of the 4th Court of Appeals…The candidate for county judge, Paul Castillo, was also there. A man after my own heart.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
