Chuck Todd's numbers on the Enthusiasm Gap tm from today's Meet the Press is a must see.

Highly Interested Voters
2008 GOP 70% DEM 83%
Now GOP 79% DEM 73%

Highly Interested Senior 65+ (Where Romney Leads)
2008 81%
NOW 87%

Highly Interested Young Voter (Where Obama Leads)
2008 72%
NOW 52%

Highly Interested Latino Voters
2008 77%
NOW 59%

His main issue was that the enthusiasm to vote is noticeably higher among demographics that favor the Republicans and noticeably down (by 20 points or more) among Demos likely to vote for Democrats.

And all these numbers are from Before The Debate.

The real question is what will the numbers look like going forward.  I think we've all had our moments where we've been disappointed in the President.

I think some of us are about ready to have Jon Stewart go in and be his designated debater after he cleaned O'Reilly's CLOCK last night.

But unfortunately Jon's probably got something else lined up for that day.

The momentum of this game could change at any time.

Yes, Obama needs to knock down as many of the avalanche of #MttLies as he can, but he also needs to find the Inspiration Button again. He needs to find a way to give people something To Vote For, not just Vote against.

The Job isn't done.  He needs to start better drawing the picture of where America can be, what it should be and how we're going to get there.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
