This morning I noted a local tv affiliate mentioning that the two biggest referendums in Washington State in my opinion, appear to be passing. All eyes are on the marriage equality referendum, #74. The latest polling I have seen does indeed showing this to be passing by anywhere from 5-7 points. Living on the conservative east side of the state as I do, I will be keenly interested in how this fares here. In Spokane it could be somewhat close, but outside of the metro area, I expect this to fail of course. Too many small farm towns. In Pullman Wa., home of Wash. State, I will be looking there for possible passage too.
The other initiative is #502 which would legalize marijuana for adults. This also looks to be passing. Locally I have seen only pro 502 ads, and not a single anti 502, which I found quite surprising.
We also have a pretty hot Governors race going on. Rob McKenna, the Repug, is going against former Congressman, Dem. Jay Inslee. Lasttime I checked yesterday, Inslee had a slim 2% point lead with about 7-9% undecided. This has been quite negative adwise, esp. this late into the campaign. One ad that stood out, and I was not aware of this, is that McKenna is aparently a Tea Partier. At least in the ad I saw he is adressing a Tea Party crowd, and proudly proclaims : " I represent you." My decision on this campaign was made early on when McKenna signed on as one of the first Attorney Generals in the nation to oppose Obamacare. That was enough for me!! He likes to come across as a moderate, but he is nowhere near a moderate. His only chance in western Washington to win I believe, is that he would have to be a liberal Repug., and we know how few there are of these.
This Governors' is going to be close. I for the life of me cannot imagine a Repug. Governor here in Washington State. It been Dems for the longest time, so this one bears watching.
The last poll I saw on the President in Eastern Washington had the race tied at 44% each which is pretty interesting I thought. I still, I still, have not seen one Romney bumpersticker in Spokane. Not one!! I have seen one yardsign, but thats it. Pretty telling of how the Repugs. locally. must feel about Romney.
I have alot to be watching tonight. Fingers are crossed, but I take great pride in the fact that my state may be one of the most progressive in the country tonight, when all is said and done. On to victory!!!!
10:40 AM PT: I just saw an online news story from KXLY.com about the Governors race. It said it could take "days" to count all the ballots. Inslee of the two, sounded more confident about the final outcome of the results.
10:48 AM PT: I just received an e-mail from the Inslee HQ and they said last night they were broekn into and items were stolen and there was damage done. How sad....they wanted to let me know before the news hit the airwaves.
Thu Nov 08, 2012 at 10:38 AM PT: Well re: the Governors race, its still listed as too close to call, BUT last I heard Inslee (D) had about a 50,000 point lead and he still expects to win. Re; Ref-74 the marriage equality. Its looking very good. The yes or approves still lead by a 52% to 48 total. There are still ballots to be counted, but its looking really good.
