I am liveblogging the returns from the 17 Wisconsin State Senate races that are taking place today. All 16 even-numbered seats are up for general election, as well as the 33rd Wisconsin State Senate district has a special Republican primary that is tantamount to election.
Link to Wisconsin Vote, which will have returns from the presidential, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and state legislative races in Wisconsin. If you have links to other sites that include Wisconsin state legislative returns, please provide those in the comments section.
5:37 PM PT: 23 minutes until Wisconsin polls close
5:47 PM PT: 14 minutes until Wisconsin polls close
5:51 PM PT: 10 minutes until Wisconsin polls close...if you are in line at poll closing time, you can still vote, so STAY IN LINE!!!
5:56 PM PT: Wisconsin Vote does not have SD-33 Republican special primary or SD-8 general results. SD-33 is a Republican primary to fill a vacant seat that otherwise wouldn't be up for re-election and SD-8 has a Republican incumbent running against a write-in Democrat.
5:57 PM PT: 3 minutes until Wisconsin polls close
6:01 PM PT: Polls closed in Wisconsin...if you are in line at poll closing time, STAY IN LINE!!!
6:07 PM PT: None of Wisconsin's 3,540 precincts have reported at this time
6:26 PM PT: Bad omen for Jessica King in SD-18? Romney leading Winnebago County by over 900 votes with 12 of 80 precincts in.
6:33 PM PT: No state senate results in yet, but a huge chunk of Dane County just reported its totals. Among competitive state senate races, only two tiny parts of SD-14 are in Dane County.
6:35 PM PT: Most precincts that are reporting early are heavily Republican, and all are in areas not part of competitive state senate races.
6:39 PM PT: Couple of precincts of SD-30 reported: Macco (R) well ahead of Hansen (D) 62-38
6:40 PM PT: Several percent of SD-18 precincts reported: Gudex (R) ahead of King (D) 58-42.
6:42 PM PT: Sommer (D) leading Tiffany (R) 50-46 in SD-12, however, only a few precincts have reported
6:50 PM PT: State Senate races lagging behind presidential race
6:52 PM PT: FOX News calls U.S. Senate race for Baldwin (D)
6:54 PM PT: Close race in SD-14: Olsen (R) leading only 52-48 over Worthington (D)
6:57 PM PT: I'm calling SD-20 for Grothman (R), unfortuntately...Grothman leading Lohr (D) 75-25 with nearly 13% precincts in.
7:00 PM PT: Yikes...Macco (R) winning big in SD-30, leading Hansen (D) 62-38 with 23% reporting.
7:07 PM PT: Hansen (D) has gone ahead in SD-30...he's now up 55-45 over Macco (R)
7:08 PM PT: SD-18 tightening up...King (D) now down 43-57 against Gudex (R) with 41% reporting
7:11 PM PT: Olsen (R) beginning to pull away in SD-14...he's now up 59-41 over Worthington (D) with 12% reporting.
7:12 PM PT: Tiffany (R) beginning to stretch out lead in SD-12...he's now leading 61-35-4 with 5% reporting
7:14 PM PT: I'm calling SD-4 for Taylor (D)...she's well ahead of King (I, former R) 72-28 with 2% reporting.
7:21 PM PT: SD-32 beginning to report...Shilling (D) ahead of Feehan (R) 58-42, however only a few precincts have reported.
7:29 PM PT: Quite the lull in state senate races reporting.
7:31 PM PT: Lassa's (D) SD-24 base (Portage County) has yet to report...that's why she's barely ahead of Nobel (R) 51-49 with 5% reporting.
7:40 PM PT: SD-28 begins to report...Lazich (R) only leading Ward (D) 52-48 with 1% reporting.
7:45 PM PT: Major development in the AD-38 assembly race...Michalak (D) leading Kleefisch (R) and Watson (L) 54-43-3 with 44% reporting! Michalak is a Lori Compas-backed Democrat, by the way, the other three "Compas Democrats" running for Assembly seats are Jorgensen (AD-43), Arnold (AD-37), and Grigg (AD-39)
7:48 PM PT: Olsen (R) looking strong in SD-14...he's leading Worthington (D) 59-41 with 35% reporting
7:48 PM PT: I will take a brief break...I'll be right back.
7:56 PM PT: Back on with my live coverage of WI State Senate races...Lassa (D) beginning to pull away from Noble (R) in SD-24...she's ahead 53-47 with 24% reporting.
7:58 PM PT: Lazich (R) beginning to pull away in SD-28...she's leading 63-37 over Ward (D) with 4.5% reporting.
8:02 PM PT: I'm calling SD-10 for Hartsdorf (R)...leading 63-37 over Olson (D) with 25.5% reporting.
8:04 PM PT: SD-32 tightening up a bit...Shilling (D) ahead 54-46 against Feehan (R) with 15% reporting
8:08 PM PT: Gudex (R) leading in SD-18 over King (D)...55-45, to be exact, with 51% reporting.
8:09 PM PT: Kleefisch (R) will probably win AD-38 over Michalak (D), in fact, I'm projecting just that, Kleefisch currently leads 55-42 with 77% reporting.
8:18 PM PT: Winnebago County, part of which is the northern part of SD-18, is going for Romney narrowly with nearly half of the precincts reporting...if King is overperforming Obama in SD-18 by several points, she will win. Can't determine that at this time.
8:19 PM PT: CNN projects Obama will win re-election to the White House!!! WE WON!!! WE WON!! WE WON!!!
8:29 PM PT: Another projection: SD-22 will be won by Wirch (D). Leading 67-33 over Stephens (R) with 39% reporting.
8:34 PM PT: I have to do this, unfortunately...I'm projecting SD-12 as a Republican pickup...Tiffany (R) leads Sommer (D) 58-39 with 50% reporting.
8:43 PM PT: SD-28 goes to Lazich (R). Leading Ward (D) 64-36 with 22% reporting.
8:49 PM PT: Regarding SD-18, Gudex (R) is leading King (D) 54-46 with 65% of the precincts reporting. No call yet.
9:05 PM PT: 34 precincts in Winnebago County have yet to report...if that's the City of Oshkosh, Jess King could still pull out victory in SD-18.
9:11 PM PT: SD-18: King 45.8% - Gudex 54.2% - 67.7% reporting
9:12 PM PT: I'm now projecting SD-14 for Olsen (R)...leads Worthington (D) 58-42 with 75.5% reporting.
9:19 PM PT: Is Jess King coming back? Gudex down to 52.7% with 2/3rds of the precincts reporting.
9:21 PM PT: AD-75: Smith (D) leads Rivard (R) by less than 100 votes with 2 precincts yet to report.
9:37 PM PT: Shilling (D) wins SD-32...leading Feehan (R) 54-46 with 56% reporting
9:38 PM PT: Hansen (D) wins SD-30...leads Macco (R) 53.5-46.5 with 2/3rds reporting.
9:42 PM PT: If Jess King comes back and wins, she owes Lori Compas a big favor. Compas did GOTV work in the Waupun area for King's campaign in the last couple of weeks before the election.
9:48 PM PT: Lisa Sink of Brookfield Patch gives us the first update on the SD-33 Republican special primary...it may be headed for a recount: 35,000 votes separated and 95 votes separate the two candidates.
9:49 PM PT: Lori Compas, unsucessful Democratic candidate in SD-13 recall in June, commented on state senate races: Not happy about how the WI state senate races are shaping up."
9:51 PM PT: Gudex (R) unseats King (D) in SD-18, hands Republicans two-seat majority in WI State Senate...85.4 reporting, Gudex leads by 3,645 votes.
10:15 PM PT: Possible recount in SD-18...Gudex leads King by 0.6% with all precincts reporting...nothing from the King campaign on whether they will call for a recount or concede yet.
