We're chasing our tails here..
Anyone that presents themselves to the public is open to ridicule. some of that ridicule enters the 'gray' area between their professional position and their personal life.
And if we were to scour the comments and diaries of those that proclaim other's comments as personally insulting to our 'adversaries' - more often than not, we would find that they themselves have at one time or another entered that 'gray' area, or gone personal in their attacks- either on the Kos site or elsewhere. And it might do some of us good to pony-up, take a look in the mirror.
I would never attack a fellow Kos member on this site. It is improper, disrespectful, and uncalled for. But for me personally, those that avail themselves to us publicly surely open themselves up to 'banter.' .. And not some endless tirade of character assassination- but a biting comment here or there- whether funny or not.. My gosh.
Our 'opponents' have referred to our President as terrorist-loving, Muslim, even an illegal alien... and worse- much worse. And worse about others as well.
... There is a famous G. Hackman line from Mississippi Burning- we might do well to remember it.
And if some feel offended or disagree- that's fine. I've had it with painting things pretty when they're not. Some 'progressives' might be mainlining 'political correct:' Not me, not anymore. I will do what I can to show Progressives as aggressive, biting. .. for a long overdue change. Our ilk has been considered docile and weak for too long.
And if I throw around some innuendo or personally-attacking comments regarding our 'adversaries' from time to time- well- sorry. And not just preaching to the choir- some of my own writings have been on wide display to the public- and they are toxic and scathing as hell.
i am a writer and photographer- if someone (outside of Kos) slams me personally because of my work (and they have)- I pony-up- I take it. And often, I respond.
If they attack my wife or 5 sons, that is a different matter altogether.
When I was in Singapore- I vigorously pursued a photo essay
on 'the ladyboys of orchard towers.' - inclusive of interviews, etc. I found many of these gals to be some of the coolest people I have ever met. Big deal? Nah- everyone was 'chill.' Nobody made big deals of anything. Neither should we.
We need to stay focused on the problems- like our elderly, like a 47% drop in American net worth, like DOMA, like women's rights, like immigration, and my God- like guns.
That's all I have to say. And I am not bothering to edit or structure this- it is what it is. And if there's disagreement? Fine.
Cheers.
Sat Jan 05, 2013 at 4:54 AM PT: This was the most astute comment of all because instead of making judgmental, damning assumptions- they questioned the moral validity of the argument:::
"I definitely think this is trans-phobic garbage (2+ / 0-)
but figure this diary is just as good of a place for it as any - I have a question about something I've noticed on dKos - why would I get HRed for calling Ann Coulter the c-word but I can call Bill O'Reilly a dick?"
Precisely.
I can take being called a dick, or how my post is being construed.
O'Reilly? Can't stand him.. but I had better own up to the fact that if I make a negative personal comment towards a public figure, friend or foe, and then go 'holier than thou,' or find some rationalization justifying my hypocrisy towards another's comment... what does that make me?
I generated this diary because I wanted people to think, as I too was set to "thinking."
Lol, I wasn't concerned with its popularity, obviously.
The most interesting thing, as author, no one questioned my concerns regarding my own adams apple, or my sexual orientation... Which would surprise many.
Lastly, someone wrote 'if you need to apologise, just do it.' To which someone responded that this wasn't an apology, it was defiance. Yep. It was... is.
Thanks to all-
