"A former senior Conservative political adviser is now widely reviled for suggesting that viewing images of child pornography does no harm. "

As Prime Minister Stephen Harper's former chief adviser and recently the campaign manager for Alberta's Wildrose Party, Tom Flanagan has been instrumental in shaping Canada's conservative political climate. But his political influence was torn apart Thursday as many of his former allies, including Wildrose leader Danielle Smith, Harper's spokesperson Andrew MacDougall and his employer, the University of Calgary, rushed to denounce caught-on-video comments Flanagan made about child pornography Wednesday at the University of Lethbridge.
Over we go!
The remarks will end the distinguished career of the University of Calgary political science professor on a sour note as the university announced his resignation.Run away!!!!!
“Comments made by Tom Flanagan in Lethbridge yesterday absolutely do not represent the views of the University of Calgary. In the university’s view, child pornography is not a victimless crime,” University of Calgary president Elizabeth Cannon said in a statement.
"I certainly have no sympathy for child molesters, but I do have some grave doubts about putting people in jail because of their taste in pictures," Flanagan responded in the video.
He explained he is not part of the ruling Conservative Party of Canada and does not agree with all of its criminal justice policies. Flanagan went on to say his email address was added to a mailing list for the Man/Boy Love Association.
"I started getting their mailings for a couple of years and that's about the closest I ever came to child pornography. So, it is a real issue of personal liberty and to what extent we put people in jail for doing something in which they do not harm another person," Flanagan argued, met with boos from the crowd.
