... and it looks like the widely admired ex-Congressman Wayne Gilchrest is taking a hand. Gilchrest was primaried by Harris (who depended on big money from the Club for Growth), who then lost narrowly to the uninspiring Frank Kratovil (D). Kratovil lost a rematch in 2010.

John LaFerla is back. He will file as Democratic candidate in the 1st District congressional race, Wednesday. The last-minute candidate for Congress in last year's election is looking ahead to 2014. He will sign the papers at the Maryland State Board of Elections in Annapolis at 1 p.m.
LaFerla said Monday he's acting now because he learned “when you start late you don't have enough time.”
LaFerla appears to be looking at a registration drive and GOTV effort. At the moment his main point seems to be that Harris is a radical ideologue whose views suit his own interest rather than the district's.
