I took a leisurely drive up to Wrightwood, CA via the I-15 and CA Route 138, but unlike previous times I'd gone there I fortunately wasn't driving, so I got a chance to take some pictures of interesting rock formations. It's not the kind of epic scenery that I sometimes photograph, but it was definitely worth recording. Wrightwood was sweet too, but I didn't take pictures there because I'm more into taking pictures of sweeping vistas or strange geology rather than nice little towns.
I'm not well-versed in geology, but I'm assuming this is uplifted sedimentary rock, right? But I am curious whether wind or water made some of the surfaces so smooth, and what caused the little holes:
I'm sure people who live in, say, Utah are familiar with that kind of geology, but it's not that normal around here as far as I've seen. Here are some zooms of the above images:
