In the comments section of last Saturday's weekly open thread, DawnN mentioned a bus trip to this coming Monday's Moral Monday event in Raleigh being put together by Western North Carolina's Save Our Water group. I have since heard from two other sources about this bus trip, and I think this is something we should try to do if possible.
I've also heard second hand that, if needed, they are looking to add a second bus or 20-passenger van. So I'm guessing they are getting a good response. It would be a really good statement if we could get a lot of Western North Carolina folks to make this trip together this coming Monday.
For those of you not yet up to speed on Moral Mondays, please read MsSpentyouth's wonderful series of diaries on the events so far; the latest one is here.
You'll need to preregister by 6:00 pm this Saturday. Go here .. http://www.saveourwaterwnc.com/
On that page you'll see a link to a flier (pdf) with the details.
In the right hand column you'll see an orange paypal Donate button. The cost is $20. You'll need to make the payment to reserve your seat. (I'm planning on bringing my receipt with me)
The bus boards at 10:00 in the morning and returns around midnight.
If you're planning on getting arrested, you can't return on the bus. However, you should email the folks at Save Our Water at the address on their site about other car-pooling plans they may have for folks planning to get arrested.
The details on the flier remind folks to wear comfortable shoes and to bring water and a lunch. It doesn't mention dinner, but I'm assuming that we should bring our own food for the day. A rain hat or umbrella might be a good idea as well.
I think this is a great opportunity for folks from Western North Carolina to make their voices heard in Raleigh. These events are getting national attention, including national press. The greater the number of folks that are able to attend, the bigger the impact these events will have on the future of our state, including next year's general assembly elections. If it's possible for you to do so, please consider making this trip.
Thanks,
David
3:20 PM PT: I've received more second hand information. I'm hearing that the first bus is getting near full, and I'm hearing that the possibility of a second bus or van, while a probability, is not a certainty. So, since it is first come first serve, do sign up as soon as you can. And if a lot of people sign up soon, that will make their decision on committing to a second vehicle easier.
